Blank Rendererinfo.txt and Black Screen During Autodetect

Post » Thu Oct 15, 2015 8:59 pm

Hi,

So Skyrim has worked flawlessly on my new MSI Apache Pro laptop unitl now. Recently when I tried to play Skyrim I received an error stating that the renderer failed to initialize. I have searched all over for a solution and tried reinstalling Skyrim as well as deleting the three files (INI's, and .txt's) in the Skyrim folder in My Documents. I also tried manually editing them but to no avail.

When I launch Skyrim the launcher starts. If I run autodetect the screen goes entirely black except for a small corner in the upper left hand side of my screen. Nothing happens but if I ALT-TAB the autodetect prompt comes up detects the lowest settings for my graphics card, which is weird because I have plenty of power. I hit ok closing the prompt. I then have to ALT-TAB again, and while holding the buttons close whatever that black screen is. Then only does my computer screen look "normal" (like no weird black screen thing). Launching Skyrim at this point fails with the above stated error of the renderer failed to initialize. Launching Skyrim without autodetect also fails in the same way.

In my research I discovered that my rendererinfo.txt file is blank. I manually put in all the info, but I still get the same error. I have also tried running Skyrim using the integrated graphics which doesn't work. Interestingly if I look at the graphics settings in the launcher, it does show the correct graphics adapter.

I am totally at loss for why it doesn't work anymore.

My specs are:

MSI Apache Pro GE62 2QF

Windows 10

i7 5700hq

970m

16gb RAM

512 GB and 128 GB SSDs

Your help will be appreciated, thanks.

Did you recently update your Nvidia driver?

I had a similar issue after updating to a new driver for Star Wars: Battlefront. Had to roll back to the older AMD driver in order to launch Skyrim to launch without the renderer initialize error.

Hmm, either way your drivers are not correctly installed, or as IceDeadPeople mentioned above.
