Your experience with SSRIs (anti-depression, anxiety) meds.

I want to ask any of you who may have taken (or are currently taking) anti-depression/anxiety/OCD medicine, namely SSRIs, what your experience with them has been.

Specifically (but not necessarily exclusively) those of you who would consider the nature of their mental health conditions very severe/life threatening.

After what you might call a psychiatric assessment, I very recently started taking Citalopram for all of the aforementioned conditions, and while I know they're not the only things that are "wrong" with me, I'm hoping they can help fight the chaos and perhaps even get me to expand my comfort zone.

It would be interesting to get the views of other gamers on this. If you want to tell me taking the medicine was a terrible mistake, go ahead. I don't mind. I'd like to keep this limited for the most part to people who have actually taken such medicine though please.

I'll leave the "whether you should take it or not" decision up to you and your doctor but I will share my experience.

Once, when I was 16, I tried to commit suicide. Thankfully I changed my mind and decided to get help before it was too late. (I spent a week in the hospital while they flushed my system of the substance I had tried to OD on.)

I continued to suffer depression but only periodically. It was suggested I be put on anti-depressants. So I did. Big mistake. I've never been more suicidal than when I was on anti-depressants. Thankfully I saw it for what it was and stopped taking them. I could feel the difference within days. No more suicidal thoughts. Sure, I still have periods of depression, but I've learned how to cope in different ways.

If they work for you, by all means continue. Just be aware they don't always work as intended and can in fact be the worst thing a suicidally depressed person can take. This is something you and your doctor need to work out. Just because some react to one variant doesn't mean they will react the same with a different type. Dosages can be tweaked to lessen the effect as well. Everyone is different and we can all react differently to the same medications.

Just be aware and watch for it.

Sorry, but this isn't really a forum for discussing medical concerns, like pros/cons/reactions to drugs. Best to deal with medical sites or better yet, discuss your concerns with a professional.
