HD remakes: An admission that older games were better?

In the last 2 years, I've been seeing a trend in video game development where classic games get remastered (compatibility with modern computers and operating systems) or a "HD remake" (support modern resolutions).

There have been plenty of people over the last 8-10 years who continue to support the classics no matter how good the graphics are on the latest otherwise mediocre and dumbed-down excuse for a premium game are.

2 notable ones that stand out:
Heroes of Might and Magic 3, HD edition. Despite HoMM7 being in development, Ubisoft thought that HoMM3 was legendary enough to deserve a HD remake.
Deus Ex: Revision. More than a HD remake or compatibility update, it looks like they completely changed everything except the storyline and some NPC designs.

Looks like publishers and developers are listening, and there's enough demand that the classics are making a comeback.

It has nothing to do with the idea that these older games were superior to modern ones, and more just of a cash grab on franchises that still have a decent enough following to warrant remaking said game.

They're on it because it gives them a huge monetary return. And you know what is worse? If RE2 Remake have the same quality of RE Remake, I will definitely buy it.

This is not a phenomenon that is unique to the video game industry, in my opinion. Across the board our culture has run out of ideas. We have been seeing an increase in reboots, remakes and general recycling of existing ideas in all forms of art and entertainment in recent years. I think we are in a period of creative stagnation.

I think someday, eventually, we will break out of it. But until then we will be seeing more movies based on comic books (and reboots of remakes of movies based on comic books), more music that sounds like the music that was made by past generations and more remakes of older video games.
