Recently came with this issue: neither disc from the GOTY edition of TES: Oblivion can't be read by my DVD unit. I have checked the disc unit and it works fine with every other disc, cleaned the unit but still Oblivion DVDs won't work. And it would be quite the coincidence that both discs got broken (specially disc 2, which has a single read), so my best explanation is the read surface is too bright and reflective (unlike the rest of my other discs, which have darker surfaces). Is there a chance to get or exchange my current DVDs with darker surfaced ones?

Do you have a DVD emulator installed on your system ?? IIRC the DRM that was used on the GOTY version (they used securom on the GOTY edition for some reason) will sometimes not work properly if any DVD emulation software is on the system - try uninstalling any emulated drives and see if the disc will then read properly - then once installed reinstall the emulation if needed. Also could be a firmware issue with the DVD drive (sometimes the DRM sees even physical drives as emulated ones due to the firmware so certain brands of DVD drives need firmware updates to work correctly)
