Spoken dialogue in games

Post » Sat Oct 24, 2015 1:17 pm

When you play a game for the first time, or do a quest for the first time, or do a quest in a certain way for the first time, how does it sound? Does it go like:

Bla bla bla bla, bla bla bla, bla-bla...bla!?

Bla, bla bla bla...

-End-

or more like

Bla bla bla bl-

Bla, b-

-End-

I assume if you are doing repeat stuff, it sounds more like

Bl-

B

-awkard pause as game struggles to load/unload stuff quickly-

-End-

I usually have sub-titles on, so that I can read the dialog super fast, and then skip to the next sentence while the NPC is still on the third word.

Except for my first playthrough, or at least the first 20 hours, I will turn them off and listen to every word. For immersion, and to appreciate the voice acting.

I usually have subtitles on for everything. Sometimes there's outside or ingame noise that prevents me from hearing what was said.

I turn off subtitles because they distract me. I retain much more if I just simply listen.

I always have the subtitle on, most of the time the voices are hard to hear with all the action in the game. :)
