Altmeri Pantheon

Post » Mon Oct 26, 2015 7:54 pm

I read in the book "Varieties of Faith in the Empire" that the Altmeri Pantheon consists of Auri-El, Trinimac, Magnus, Syrabane, Y'ffre, Xarxes, Mara, Stendarr, Lorkhan, Phynaster. This isn't an exhaustive list though, is it?

How do they stand on the other Aedra? I'm wondering specifically about Kynareth. If anyone has any ideas or other sources of information, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

They are part of the Pantheon but not all are part of the Divine 8. For example Lorkhan is considered a bane and enemy of the Altmer, while he is a savior to the Nords. They don't typically believe in Kynareth, and in their Mythos if anything it's a lesser god by a different name. They also don't accept Talos as a Divine or a God.

Generally speaking, the Eight are worshipped by different names and sometimes somewhat different roles between cultures. The Imperial Divines are basically just a compromise between the Altmeri and Nordic pantheons, for example.

Akatosh and Auri-El are the same being, for instance, just different aspects worshipped by different cultures. It's entirely possible they worship Kyne under a name and role different enough from what we know her as that they mistakenly consider what they worship to be a different god than her.

Thanks for your responses, Darksun and Serithi. I too haven't found anything that suggests that the Altmer recognise Kynareth, so I'll assume they don't. If some legends are true and Kynareth was really the first Aedra to agree to the creation of the mortal plane, then I guess I would see no reason for them to venerate her.

I don't think they share as many similarities as Auri-El and Akatosh do, but Y'ffre and Kynareth are near anologues. Nature gods with connections to voices, who guided their early followers and gave structure to the world.
