Denver activists built some small dwellings for homeless people. They were arrested and the houses were torn down.
Yeah, you cannot just decide to move in to the park and build a house without first checking your local zoning codes. Most cities do not allow camping in a city park, much less building a house there, no matter how tiny. Where I live in Vancouver though, our local City Council just passed an ordinance making it legal to camp in a City park, so those Denver activists may want to move to the Evergreen State.
Yeah, while I understand the desire to help those in need, you have to be out of your mind to think that you're going to get away with taking it upon yourself to just build some houses on public or private property that you have no ownership of whatsoever. These people were either just trying to make a statement or aren't terribly bright.
Not to mention the fact , that without a sewage line........ There uhh.... never mind its a great idea
And what the hell emptying chamber pots in the streets has served us so well in the past. No need to worry cause I am sure they would use appointed public bathrooms.
As tacky as two post in a row is..... (not sure how to make a link) sorta

Do not mistake me as a heartless jerk, well not Heartless, jerk is up for debate. It's just among my span I have worked security at drug rehab center, as well as with special needs residents who indeed needed actual care, not what we could give (lack of space causes overflow it is all very depressing, plus the return rate of people who fall back into using.) This story (the OP) actually made me quite angry as it seemed more like using others as a pawn piece than really trying to help, thats all.
I know it's cool to be the underdog, but I have to agree with the law on this one. Housing zones and regulations exist for a reason. At the very least for the existence of an address that the police or paramedics can respond to. And then there is the sewer requirements, electrical safety standards, proper spacing between homes and so on.
