A question about InterPlay's Fallout collection DVD

Post » Sun May 23, 2010 3:17 pm

Interplay's site mentions that it (the collection) can be burned to a DVD, but is it possible to burn individual CDs for the separate games? i finished my faux-fallout 2 jewel case (before i even bought the collection, at that!) already.

Can anyone please help me with this?

I don't have that collection, so I can't know how they organized it on the disc. But typically with old bundles, its common to find a common installer that just runs the setup program for each title from within its own directory. If that's how they did it, then I suppose you could design your collector discs with the contents of each install folder on their own disc. (you could even use Lightscribe media and the cover-art for your custom labels.)

This would break their bundle installer though, and you'd have to run the setup manually for each game ~ unless you made your own installer, but that's a lot of extra work.

The way to check would be to explore the disc and find out if its got a directory for each, and try running the installer. If it was done some other way, then it likely won't be so easy, and was probably done on purpose (which suggests that they don't want the games split up).

*I remember that I made my own multi-disc custom jewel case for NWN1 ~because the games shipped in paper sleeves.

It seems you are wanting to buy the trilogy online and burn it to CDs as a backup?

I would suggest instead you buy it on GOG.com... it is cheaper, they are updated by GOG staff to make sure they run well in all Windows releases, and the installers are small enough to burn to a CD, I believe... 500 or so MB each.

I would agree, but I got the impression that he'd(?) already bought the trilogy on DVD.

You could be right... he could be burning them just for the sake of using his created packaging... if so, nevermind my post.

Well, that, and for the most authentic feel. i'm even getting label paper for the discs so i can make labels based on the original CD art.

EDIT: it would seem GOG.COM's versions of F1 and F2 are the Censored UK versions...I really don't care about kids being removed, it's just that patches for the US version might not work with the UK Version.

The GOG versions come fully patched... I wasn't aware they were the kid-removed versions, but I know there are simple mods which will make them the normal version either way.

They are not censored as far as I know. This came up a while back in the threads.
Is it possible that they offer separate installers depending on the country of the order's origin?

That would surprise me, given GOG's stance on offering the same products at the same price throughout the world.

I thought all the UK versions were censored...?

When it says Language it has a picture of the UK flag and then "english". of course, my assumption is rather foolish now that i think of it. (blushes until red as a red giant)

They are, but there are unofficial patches available for download that remove the censorship and restore children to the game.

Stupidest change ever. Removing children breaks some quests and also creates invisible pickpocketing children. [censored] censorship (<- how ironic is that?) and morality being enforced on computer games. It's annoying to mature, secular gamers like myself.

Heh, yeah, that's just the default symbol for "English language version."
