For all the nay sayers (Skyrim on Next Gen)

Looks like there is a fraction of a possibility for a Skyrim port or remaster for the next gen (link http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/11/03/fallout-4-development-began-by-porting-the-elder-scrolls-skyrim-to-xbox-one.aspx).

The pertinent quote is from Todd where he says, "Don't get your hopes up yet." (emphasis mine). I find this particularly noteworthy for two reasons. One, for every person who comes to these forums and blissfully wishes for a complete remaster of the series, there are at least ten people who would rather Bethesda not waste the time and just focus on developing the next Elder Scrolls title. Additionally, we seem to be living in the remaster era. The remastered Gears of War, the remastered Windwaker, the hinted at remaster or at least re-release of Bioshock and Bioshock: Infinite. The list is pretty inexhaustible (which is another topic altogether).

I find it plausible that they might remaster, or at the least re-release, Skyrim for the next gen for two reasons. First, with the upcoming release of Fallout 4 and the continued support for ESO (even if it is helmed by another company) I believe Bethesda has hit its own personal saturation point. They themselves have stated that development and release of the next Elder Scrolls will be in the far future. You can interpret that as you will, but the point is that for those who long for the single player Elder Scrolls experience, its going to be a bit of a dry spell. Honestly it feels surreal to have the release of a new Fallout so close upon us. So, it seems like it might be a safe bet that Bethesda might have a small bit of interest in releasing a remastered Skyrim perhaps halfway through the ES drought. That ties into my second point, being that a remaster would be very well received, and would potentially generate them even more revenue for a relatively small investment. At this point, they are probably very comfortable with the hardware, but giving the port duties to a team that they are training to bring into the full development cycle for ES VI could be an invaluable opportunity that would be too good to pass up. The proverbial 2 birds with 1 stone.

Anyways, I saw the article and felt a faint glimmer of hope. I know with backwards compatibility on the horizon, I could conceivably be playing Skyrim as much as I want, but a remaster that integrates the modding capability they are introducing with Fallout 4 on consoles could be huge and re-invigorate the console base. I know Fallout 4 is going to be all I need for a long time, but I won't lie and say that when it finally wears out its welcome, I wouldn't appreciate being able to step into a prettier, modded, and more powerful Skyrim. If you are a PC elitist, please just walk away from this thread because I know what you are going to say ha ha. To everyone else, I welcome your thoughts.

I'm not going to say that I think it's impossible but I honestly question why they would do it, especially considering their numbers are so low as a studio. Some would say that the reason why you see so many studios remastering games is because their creativity has stagnated so therefore they rely on nostalgia for increased monetary gain. I like to think that this certainly isn't the case for BGS and hopefully won't be for at least another 3+ elder scrolls games. Furthermore, as I mentioned regarding the number of employees, I think BGS is currently at around 110 members, and therefore they don't have as much room to spend on remastering a game without there being some sort of consequence for their other projects.

Furthermore, I would question the likelihood of Skyrim, the most recent elder scrolls game getting a remaster before a much older TES game. Skyrim itself is also still among the top 10 most played games on steam, so I really don't see any business imperative to bring forth more attention to it.

All together, I just don't see any strong reasons why one should expect it to occur or expect it to be plausible, especially when in the article he states it was merely an exercise to get the team used to the new hardware.

Well, we already now Fallout 3 is coming to the Xbox One via digital backwards compatible emulation. So, I expect Skyrim will be the same at some point, a simple emulated port rather than a new version. ie: No graphic updates, no new content, no modding capabilities etc

As for the PS4, maybe if Sony pull their finger out.
