Power attack not always working.

Post » Mon Nov 16, 2015 11:06 am

When I try doing power attacks even with full stamina it only works maybe half the time when it doesn't the camera just pans in the direction that im pressing like what should be a standard easy move of pressing attack then forward results in the camera looking up with a regular attack where im getting hit a extra time while realligning the camera.

I've tried timing it perfect along with different attacks, left, right, back with the same result,so now I just hit attack repeatedly while wildly moving the stick in different directions.

Could this be a bug? When I first started playing it was with a old hard disc that was bugged so I couldn't swim when I tried the camera would just pan down instead of swimming down, this seems like the exact same thing but I just downloaded this with 1.9 like a week ago.

I don't think this is technical so I didn't post it in the other forum,I think that I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks

Never had this problem so I can't answer anything for sure.

I'm assuming you're playing in 3rd person by what I read....try it in first person and see if the problem persist. Or perhaps you are holding down one of the buttons that allows you to pan the camera. I can't remember for sure but I don't think you even need to move forward to do a power move.

Overall my assumption is you're probably hitting a button somewhere while you're doing the power move. Other than that I have no clue

Yeah thats what I was thinking but it says to press attack while pressing a direction.

Maybe it's just the way you worded it, but I notice that you seem to have it backward. That is, I always press the direction button first, then while holding it down, a split second later I press attack and release them both at once...

The standard basic power attack is done with no directional movement. Just stand still fir an instant next to your victim and hit the button for power attack. If you use a direction button during power attack you get one of the special variations.....but I find you just end up moving away from your target before the hit connects. Or sprinting past them before the smack down. It's annoying at least. I use a controller instead of a mouse (X360) so I just go upto them....or sneak up from behind, then press and hold the attack trigger....BAM! Power attack.

It's my guess, that you aren't holding down the attack button long enough.

As Rick stated, the directional is irrelevant in being able to do a PA. Tap for a regular attack and hold for a PA.

I had trouble getting the Bloodskall blade to do its thing as part of a quest on Solstheim. Essentially, you have to execute a two-handed power attack to the left, to the right, and straight ahead.

I got it to work by doing the following (on Xbox, vanilla game, first-person view, and standard controller configuration):

1. Start the movement (I'm using the left joystick) and give the game a chance to 'do' the move.

2. Once the move has started (be it to the left, to the right or just forward), press and hold the attack button (T1 on my controller).

Don't do both operations simultaneously and give the movement time to take place (maybe as long as 1 second) before pressing and holding the attack button.

Good luck!

Except for one little thing... the directional is NOT irrelevant, because different directions result in different power attacks. For instance, moving backward and pressing attack results in the character moving toward the rear, doing a 360 swing with the weapon. It makes a difference because if you are moving forward for a power attack against a charging enemy, you will often find yourself too close, and the swing is wasted while your opponent clobbers you.

Forgive my wording. I was referring to a basic PA. Granted, directional is needed for varied attack animations. However, it is not needed at all to simply execute a PA.

That's right! As I explained in my post at #5. The point being made was that giving a movement direction was not a requirement for a power attack and it's a lot easier to execute a standing PA. Employing the special variations of PA by using direction requires care if the attack is not to be miss placed. I have often gone to do a normal standing PA and still ended up sprinting past my target before the strike....not just irritating but at times positively dangerous.

All right! Awesome - now you can also take full advantage of some weapon perks that require directional power attacks. Be sure to check them out.
