You Should Have Rapiers

Post » Wed Nov 18, 2015 3:25 am

All i have to say is that Rapiers should be added in future installments of TES along with that should be thrusting animations and i saw that in the video making Oblivion you had a Rapier on a table that you guys where talking at but please make it realistic and not having spikes or make it curved but a thin straight steel Rapier

Welcome to the forums. We have an ongoing series of threads talking about what we would like to see in future TES games here: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1543910-official-beyond-skyrim-tes-vi-67/page-3

For what it's worth, I agree. Not only rapiers, but other sword, axe and mace variants. But implementing them in a worthwhile way, and not making them just reskinned variants of the same old sword, is a slightly more complicated task.

Rapiers were in Morrowind. I don't know why they removed them?

Multiple reasons, most likely. Time to make the models and textures like be one. They didn't match the high-fantasy aesthetic they were going for. The change in mechanics made them somewhat silly. And an attempt to balance the number of weapon-options in each category...

Probably for the same reason they removed spears, clubs, tantos, wakizashis, dai-katanas, broadswords, halberds, throwing knives, throwing stars and darts.

I don't know what that reason is. I just assume there must have been one.

Surely they didn't do it for...no reason at all...?

The heck with rapiers. I want polearms. Big nasty ones, with sharp spikey points and choppy bits. Halberds, pikes, glaives, partisans...

Morrowind didn't have rapiers. They had sabers and cutlasses, but no rapiers. I agree with Glargg that polearms would be nice, though.

The most likely reason being that a wider variety of weapons means more work on different meshes, and longer developement time.
