TES6 = Morrowind HD Remake

Post » Wed Nov 18, 2015 10:37 am

Morrowind was the game that really introduced me into the TES Universe.

I can never forget that first time I walked from Seyda Neen to Balmora, that beautiful theme by Jeremy Soule. Truly one of the most epic feeling I felt in my years of gaming.

Till this day, whenever there's a new Elder Scrolls title, there will always be attempts to remake it to the latest engine. "Morroblivion" or "Skywind" for example.

I'm quite sad that the younger generation never have a chance to experience this classic title and I hope it can be remade.

What do yall think?

No, leave the old games be and let Bethesda focus their resources on new games. Bethesda knows exactly what they are doing. Remakes definitely aren't a sensible thing to do. If you want to play Morrowind then play Morrowind. I don't understand why so many people NEED a remake to enjoy the game.

Nah, I love Morrowind and all, but it doesn't need to be remade. There are plenty of mods that make it look as good as 'new' games and tweak gameplay to make it far superior to what was originally released. Besides, you can easily play MW on any fairly standard PC without the requirements of modern games.

TES 6 should be an all new game that hopefully learns from what was right in all of the previous games and move past some mistakes made by 'updating'.

If by Morrowind HD remake, you mean Beth should reintroduce some of the complexity of Morrowind by reintroducing and improving/modernizing many of the game mechanics that have been cut in the name of streamlining, then I'd be all for that. But I would not favor a simple remake of Morrowind. For one thing, I'd rather see a new province, like Elsweyr or Blackmarsh and I'd rather something entirely new than a simple remake. Besides, I doubt Beth could do a Morrowind remake justice anyway. They'd just streamline it into something I would need to heavily mod to enjoy.

I'd rather move forward than constantly rehash the same thing, regardless of how I love that thing. Leftovers get stale, and sometimes (usually) its better to make something new than pretty up the old. I mean, how many remakes of Shakespeare have been any good?

They should take a look at some of the concepts and design elements of past games, but they should never remake them.

For myself, the remake emphasis (Skywind and Morroblivion) is going in the wrong direction. I would much rather see the new titles retrofitted to Morrowind. As for TES VI, it should be a new story set in a new providence not a retelling of Morrowind which is still a viable game in its own right.

Why remake Morrowind? That's already been done by over 5000 different mod-makers over a period of more than a decade, with spectacular results. Besides, we've been there, done that. I'm looking forward to a new game in a new province, but with the same cultural depth and complex game mechanics with choices and consequences that Morrowind and Daggerfall had, not a gutted and sugar-coated "Morrowind for Dummies" with better graphics as its sole redeeming feature.

I would prefer a remake of Skyrim with the expanded cultural and religious aspects of Daggerfall or Morrowind, game mechanics where characters with different skills and abilities respond differently and FEEL different in the hands of the player, and who can often FAIL, or perform far less than optimally, if/when their skills (and/or Attributes) are below what's needed to perform a task (rather than being unable to even try). Granted, both Daggerfall and Morrowind had their own share of problems, but "fixing" those problems by amputation of practically everything that made those games interesting isn't a viable solution.

Got your attention though, didn't it?

I like what Kovactus said.
