TES magic theories, wanted!

I agree here. I also don't care for the fact of those of low willpower or intelligence having access to magicka (my Orc barbarian shouldn't be able to cast a devastating spell because he chugged some fortify magicka, intelligence, willpower potions). This should be something that needs to be developed by a character dedicated to the art.

The closest I've come to actually enjoying a "mage" type, is with the game, Arx Fatalis. Here you not only needed to properly develop your character (stats, collecting ruin stones), but learn to cast the spells with gestures. Not perfect, but it came close.

Here is a short demo:

First: That's a good idea, the pure stats and the gestures.

Second: That vid is sweet...I'd like to play that game. Gota look it up! :user:

Plus I always wanted to write down spells, keeping them in a book. Start out with a 0.01% chance of casting them until you learn the spells.

Idk, there should be a balance. At some point an engaged orc can pull of some magicka based devastation through brute force and will. So why not? I think I get that just because he chugged some soda, a whole range of spells would become available. So serious magicka cost penalties for less skilled users, and much slower magicka regen.

Also, remove the cast preventer for low magicka or skill. If your an idiot and try a huge spell without sufficient reserves, you should pay. And if your skill level is lower than the spell "level", so be it, chance of failure. And the " " was because the 25 step OB tier system was really frustrating. spell level should be much more fluid.

Edit: \/ - @ eirik, are you using an extensive mod list? I have never heard of creatures using items. Best to re-post that in the Morrowind section.

Since we are on the subject of magics, I wondered if any of you experienced this as well. Some time ago, my character was walking on Solstheim and a Grizzly bear attacked from a distance. By attack, I mean it sent a ball of poison much like the spells that those that cast send. When I brought the beast down with an arrow, a check of its contents showed that aside from meat, and an article of clothing, it had a DireViperbolt ring.

That was peculiar, because I had no idea that the bear would/could cast a spell from having ate the item.

I thought it was a fluke, but it happened again in Solstheim. The bear shot contagion again, and sure enough, it was because of a Ring of Poison in its belly.

I definitely want 2 see more depth in magic using. i think some spells should take some time to cast like if your summoning a huge daedric monster or something or a giant fireball. and the time it takes to caste greater spells should be affected by your skills. but i also think some spells should have the option of holding to do more. like its very annoying to have to use a thousand heal minor wounds spell just to regain a quarter of your health bar. You should be able to hold that and it heals you and drains your magicka accordingly. Im not saying itll be any quicker but it would definitely be more fluid. or if your using a fireball a bunch of times why cant you just hold down the button to release a steady consistent flame.

also it would be cool that if a spell cost more magicka than you have you could hold the spell put your current magika into it and keep casing it while your magicka regenerates until you've spent enough magicka to cast it if that makes any sense.

I woould also like to see scroll making
