Companions - Bethesda has learned nothing

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 9:29 am

After having failed with companions in Fallout 3 and New Vegas...more specific to track them down after they went missing, they added with the Gun Runners Arsenal a terminal to call them, as they were unable to add a PipBoy function for it. Now in Fallout 4 you expect that they added a function right off the bat...or even better...not let it happen that they disappear...but oh wonder, I sent Piper to the Minutemen stronghold, I travel there after I needed to do some BoS missions and she is nowhere to be found.

Do I need to wait now until this function comes with the season pass or even start a new game*, just because they don't learn their lessons?

*In fact I just did load an old file and so lost 2 hours progress.

You could send Bethesda your resume and a portfolio of your AI work. Perhaps they'll hire you and let you fix it for them. :)

Well if the modders can get you a working debug console, it is as simple as opening the console and typing on an attached keyboard:

"prid xxxxx" (xxxxx is the refid for Piper)

"moveto player"

And there she is!

If I were playing on a console, this is the first mod I would request.

The other almost mandatory debug console command is "tcl" (toggle collision), for when some fat NPC gets stuck in a doorway and refuses to move.

It is not on the PS 4 and XBox One.

I fully expect it on the PC - and will be terribly upset if it is not.

The only time I have ever lost companions in the wasteland in Fallout 3 or Fallout NV was when they died in the wasteland. In Fallout 4 a companion cannot die if they are in companion status but if you dismiss one they are no longer "essential" and can get aced (you can even kill them yourself if you want).

In Skyrim followers meet with you at load doors or then fast traveling. It was rarely an issue except some like Ayla who hanged back and got confused in dungeons. And yes followers could not jump up and did not want to jump down if they could run an extra km.

Nope, they merged it all down into context commands like Skyrim.

You just look at a companion, old the interact button for a second or two, then you can tell them to do stuff such as move somewhere, pick up certain items, etc. etc.

People do get lost you know. SO deal with it.

On another note, I will also be pissed if there is no console. "tcl" is a must if you have companions.

I fully expect this game to be similar to Skyrim - at first we'll [censored]. And once we get the modding kit, the game will get really good.

I fully expected companions to be trash, and can't wait to get Lone Wanderer.
