Fallout: Problem

Post » Mon May 24, 2010 9:11 am

Sometimes when i try to open Fallout (Fallout 1, the original) i get a message thats like

"Fallout cannot open, because it needs atleast 20.0mb of free space"

This is odd, considering I have over 215gb's. Last time i had Fallout installed it gave me the same problem..m I missing a patch or something? Im not sure what version I have right now, but im pretty sure i patched it.

I believe that is happening due to the fact, that Fallout 1 was made for the Windows 95/98 or MacOS 7.5/8.0 platform. If you are using Microsoft Windows, try setting the compatibility level on Fallout, to match Windows 98/ME or Windows 95. That might make it work, but you might have coloring issues (I had the same, and confirmed on Windows 7 Build 7201).

Another possibility, is your hard drive space. Maybe since Fallout 1 is for Windows 95/98, it may not recognize such high HD space. I think compatibility mode helps, but yea.

Odd, you shouldn't need to use compatibility mode. Are you using an old retail release of Fallout? A "Good Old Games" or "Interplay" online release? Or a more recent white label/Interplay retail release?

I'm pretty sure Firefox isn't the problem as I can run Fallout with Firefox open.
