Will there even be another Elder Scrolls title?

Seriously. Will there even be another Elder Scrolls rpg? I liked Fallout 3 fine, but to me it wasn't worthy of carrying Oblivion's or Morrowind's respective jock straps, but that's the only thing you see Bethesda working on, besides the "other" pseudo-Fallout game and the so-called co-op game.

It's been 4 years since Oblivion. It is incomprehensible to me that Bethesda would just crap down both legs after Oblivion and Morrowind both make everybody's top 10 games of all time...but there is *nothing* pointing to them actually doing anything with Elder Scrolls now, and to say it is disappointing is an understatement. How many freaking post-apocalyptic games do we need Bethesda? Phhht. I haven't bought a Bethesda game since Fallout 3, and I have no intention of buying the Vegas version, because really, post-apocalypse is just too damned depressing after a while, and no matter how many great mods get made, it's still a post-apocalypse world. On the other hand, fantasy works, and there's far more you can do in it. I hope Bethesda get's off their collective butts and starts working on Elder Scrolls soon, or I'll just have to change my preference and stick with the Bioware's Dragon Age, which is a great game, but I prefer open-world and open skills ala Oblivion.

Nothing? Really?

What about the repeatedly renewed Skyrim trademark for a game, manuals, t-shirts, hats, etc.
The comments from developers that indicate they care about and value the Elder Scrolls IP, and that they have no intention to ever stop making the games.
The secretive "Next Big Game" they are working on, to which we have no information whatsoever.

Ok, so it's very little, but Beth has historically been very secretive about what they are developing, and they have historically saved up everything for one big reveal, after which they trickle info until release date. Don't let the lack of info get you so down that you lose all hope. I have faith that as long as Beth exists, there will be Elder Scrolls games.

No, Bethesda is no longer interested in making money.

After the succes of Oblivion another TES game is almost a guarantee.

At first there was an interview with one of the bigger Beth-guys (can't find the source any more, but it's bound to be around) around 2006 that 1/3 of the team would continue work on Oblivion as in making patches/expansions and such. An other 1/3 would begin on a new title (turned out to be fallout 3). AND the other 1/3 would begin on a new release in the TES-series which would come out in 2010. THAT was 2006. Other sources however, from later years, including other interviews with the bigger beth-guys, contradict the one in 2006, if we can believe those.

Personally i don't know what to believe any more and i don't care about all the speculation whether or not it is coming. When it comes, it comes and i will buy it.

Edit: Ah, "not in the near future" (See post above)

I'm just as butt hurt over this as you are OP. The reason being that the next Elder Scrolls title is the only thing I'm looking for. Most other games today just don't do the trick, they're boring, linear and I can't become invested in them.

Yes there will be another Elder Scrolls. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for them to tell us what's going on at E3 this year

I'm pretty excited for a new game as well. I'm really hoping they fix the level scaling. I'm not sure how different it is in FO3el scaling there felt better to me. I guess in Oblivion it is just frustrating not that the enemies level up, but by the time have some sweet new armor all the bandits are wearing glass too! They don't even have houses much less money for glass or mithril!!!

Everything we think we know about TESV is fan speculation.

I mean, there's a few things we've heard, but we don't actually know if it's being developed yet.

I think they should concentrate more on what actually made the company, and Fallout should be their secondary game. Annoying as hell to us TES fans, who've been with Bethesda since before Fallout 3 was even a fart in the wind.

I love it when these threads come up, why you ask, because the locked sign looks very nice on the board :P

We really need a big message that appears to everybody once they log in to the Elder Scrolls section, i'm thinking something along these lines...

"TES V is coming, we don't know when and we have no official proof, but here's why:
  • TES makes money, businesses like money, therefore TES + Bethesda = happy Todd :twirl:
  • TES is a series; if they don't say it ends it hasn't, and if you are thinking of that time that an idiot reporter said there wouldn't be TES anymore, yeaaaah, living in the past there buddy :ooo:
  • SKYRIM trademark; not going to tell you much about since it has been discussed to death in the speculation thread (view above link)
  • TES related events like the TESting your knowledge point to TES related news in the future, (it's called building hype :whisper: )
  • TES is not a dead series, there has been sufficient activity with the books to show that they still care about it (big surprise much  )

Finally a small word to everyone out there, patience is a virtue, learn it, eat it, drink it, even look at the hundred other locked pages saying the same thing. TES is coming, just cool down, take a big drink of water, and wait B)

Yes, there will be another TES game. Pete Hines has said so himself. They are working on it right now, but just are keeping very quiet about it.
All of this should be, and is, on a daily basis, discussed in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1085708-official-tes-v-speculation-thread-number-25/, a very active thread where we discuss things like release dates, when it'll be announced, etc. I recommend going there, lots of juicy bits.

I'd say that a lot of public interest in Bethesda has been renewed. Older generation Daggerfall/Morrowind players are on the edge of their seat, waiting to see if Bethesda will return to the call of RPGs and craft another intricate and deep Elder Scrolls game - they'll purchase the game regardless, because, come on, who can resist an Elder Scrolls game? Todd Howard's wallet has the backing of these fans, as well as a new influx of players who were brought in with Oblivion and Fallout 3. These two games, being substantially more mainstream friendly and media hyped than their predecessors, ensures Bethesda has picked up quite a bit of company momentum - there's no reason to stop anytime soon.

Additionally, the novel implies that Bethesda is starting to take the path of Blizzard and expand their world beyond the confines of large-scale games which take years to produce. Novels and other ways to supplement the lore and keep the world dynamic while we wait for major new installments is always a plus. Then there's also the TESting Your Knowledge quizzes, which were obviously to build hype, or maybe even hint at the subject of the next game (has anyone found continuity among each question?).

Bethesda has been really quiet, so I'm sure they're making an effort to really blow us away with the next installment of the series. :)

...of course, there's still nothing implying this won't be even more pretentious than Oblivion. :ahhh:

Let's use the correct thread for this - no need for two.
