My Concerns for PS4

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 8:16 pm

I have a few concerns about Fallout 4. Some of this will be small. But, I feel it deserves mention.

For the PS4, don't try to do more than the console can handle. You already tried that with the PS3 and failed miserably. You have the specs for a standardized system -- use them.

I don't know about you. But, I want some new enemies. I'm tired of Bandits, Deathclaws, Gangs, General Bad Guy, Robots, variants of BoS, Raiders, blowflies, radscorpions, rats, ghouls, mutants, etc. I want them to stretch their creative juices. I want them to show me something new. We are going to a new region. I'm sure there would be different mutated creatures. How about mutated bears or mountain lions? So far, the trailer has shown me they know how to recycle previous game elements (including the Bobblehead in the gas station). That doesn't actually bode well. It means the enemies could act the same what they did in Fallout 3 and New Vegas with eratic movements -- apparent lightening reflexes and such. For the love of god, redesign Power Armor so that it actually looks cool.

I'll grant them a new story is a great idea. I'll even admit I enjoy the games. But, don't expect me to purchase day one if it's all the same stuff. I have Fallout 3 which means I can run around with a dog if I want. I have New Vegas which means I can kill the same enemies all day long ---. Last but not least, Bring back the deathclaw gauntlet.

Really really with I could go back and edit the title and drop the PS4. Can I do that?

The PlayStation 4 (PS4) uses off the shelf PC hardware. The problem a whole lot of video game developers outside of SONY's first party video game developers had with the PlayStation 3 (PS3) was the Cell processor.

Since the PlayStation 4 (PS4) is PC based you should not worry about Bethesda Game Studios doing a horrible job of coding the PlayStation 4 (PS4) of Fallout 4.

Heh, there were mutated bears in Fallout 3, the Yao Guai.

And Bethesda had trouble with the PS3 because of how it distributed RAM compared to the PC and 360. This is no longer a problem with the PS4, so they won't have the same issues.

I hope so. I can't tell you how many feezes I have experienced with both Fallout 3 and NV along with Skyrim. It makes me really wary.

The Xbox One, not the PS4 is the one I'm worried about, it is the weaker system. Both systems though are medium to high closed AMD PC's. Also unlike the previous consoles, with the PS4, if you have a crash you usually don't have to restart the console which is a godsend.

Iove the enemy variants in the FO series.

Are you saying they should remove them or add more Ariants alongside the already existing ones? Raiders and gangs would be a fact of post-apocalyptic life. I would be very disappointed if they removed raiders from the game.

Plus I loved the raider comments in F3 during combat

So none of the following:

Bandits

Deathclaws

Gangs

General Bad Guy

Robots

variants of BoS

Raiders

blowflies

radscorpions

rats (I assume you include mole rats and pig rats in this, so...)

pigrats

molerats

ghouls

mutants

bears (you suggested this as an alternative but as other have said, they have already been in two Fallout games, so I put them on the list for you)

Now I am going to add to this list, critters that other people have said they don't want to see again:

aliens

cazadors

nightstalkers

giant ants

wanamingos

Radroaches have not been mentioned and they really belong on the list because they have damned near been in more games than humans have, and where you find radroachers, you also find chem dealers. Also, where you find yao gaui, you find mirelurks so we will add those. And canines of various sorts.

So our complete list of DO NOT USE is:

Bandits

Deathclaws

Gangs

General Bad Guy

Robots

variants of BoS

Raiders

blowflies

radscorpions

rats

pigrats

molerats

ghouls

mutants

bears

aliens

cazadors

nightstalkers

giant ants

wanamingos

radroaches

chem dealers

mirelurks

canines

Ok, to use:

mountain lions.

I have to assume that the problem is with overuse and not just use, so anything that has only been used once can be added to the list. So cazadors and nightstalker are going to wind up on both lists. Also hockey players have only been used once so we can sneak ice gangs in.

So far we have:

mountain lions

cazadors

nightstalkers

holograms

ice gangs (GO REDWINGS, YAY!)

Things are looking kind of sparse here. Well, it was suggested that flying rays (stingrays, I assume) be added. and there are a few human types that quite a few people would like to shoot down in cold blood so we will add those. And we really haven't ever seen any spiders or snakes (other than nightstalkers and they really aren't snakes)

This will make our complete list of things ok to use in Fallout:

Mountain lions

cazadors

nightstalkers

holograms

ice gangs

flying rays

lawyers

accountants

mutated spiders

mutated snakes

Ok, folks, I have run dry here and we simply don't have enough bad guys to make a game. feel free to chime in.

"Should have stayed home today hero, hahahahaha"

Never gets old. Borderlands, RAGE, and Fallout 3 bandits/raiders are a riot.

Wow, that's a pretty huge list. I think you miss my point completely. Of course, most of these elements are going to be present. My point is give me something new that isn't a variant of what we've already seen. Otherwise, Fallout 4 is the same game we've all played before minus the location and the story. Can you blame me for wanting something fresh?

I'm hoping the PS4 version won't suffer the slowdown caused by save file bloat that the PS3 version suffered with so badly.

Wow Skyrim's PS3 version was awful because of that. Seeing Bethesda's track record with TES and Fallout games on console I might go for the PC version this time.

New enemies?

I've always wanted to see http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gehenna_(Van_Buren) and http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Molech.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Mutant_cannibal are also pretty creepy-looking.

Adding on to what was said about the problems with the Cell processor. While the PS3 was the strongest Console of all three systems, it was pretty complicated to program for. I saw the docs myself and it's bad. I mean real bad. If you use a custom engine, you're pretty much writing a whole new multi-threaded system just for your specific engine. Check that. Specific Game if you improved your engine's technical abilities. It also forces multi-core programming... which is not something a lot of developers actually do.

Then finally, the BIGGEST problem Skyrim had on PS3 had nothing to do with the developers making something the system couldn't handle. It had something to do with it's serialization code. The stupid file size got bigger and bigger every time you saved till eventually it couldn't run anymore.

Now just because PS4 is using off the shelf PC parts, does not make it any easier to program for. You're forgetting that code isn't a one size fit all sort of thing. Typically there has to be a large bulk of code being rewritten or abstracted just for it to function correctly.

And why don't you want to see the mutated critters that defined Fallout? You pretty much removed everything that is Fallout, and typically expected of any apocalypse, and are telling them to spend another five years creating more lore and enemies. And apparently gangs are in your f-list too. That's... a natural society thing buddy. I guess if you want creative, you could have a flying spaghetti monster, a land shark, and Super Mutant Chucknoris who does the wilhelm scream when he dies.

For Bethesda game's at least you should always buy it for PC because modders will fix the bugs that Bethesda misses when they are finished supporting the game. Also mods are a nice bonus and if you have a PC that is capable of running it on at least Medium which is most likely the closest to the console setting then you'd be doing yourself a huge favor. I've regretted buying the games for consoles first everytime I've done it. This time I will not be making that mistake. I'd take low graphics on PC before dealing with console BS again.

I bought Oblivion for PC on launch but my PC couldn't handle it so I got it for 360 and it was fine, that's the reason why I got Fallout 3 and NV on 360 as well and they were working decent too. However, then I picked up Skyrim on the PS3 and it was a drama. In the mean time I bought a new PC and upgraded it too so I bought Skyrim: Legendary edition during a steam sale and it was a totally different game (playing on ultra+mods). So depending on the specs I'll get Fallout 4 on PC (and 3+NV too during summer sale).

Skyrim got better after the 1.9 update.

Fallout 3 however was pretty much neglected and I was very irritated by that. The more I played Fallout 3 on the PS3. The worse things got. The more frequent the game freezes got. After level 30, finished the story line and dlc's, and gotten most of the good equpment and weapons....well.....the game became very unplayable. Every few minutes it would freeze up and I would have to restart my PS3.

It was a huge pain and I don't understand why Bethesda didn't make more patches for it. That is a big question as of why they just left it alone. But oh well, it is what it is now.

I am hoping I don't see numerous problems and mass glitches with Fallout 4.

Return to Fallout 4
