Hello,

I am currently able to launch Fallout 4, and am able to walk around with extreme lag, I haven't checked the fps but I'd guess its 10 fps. I will include my system specs below. I had a simlar issue with this with battliefield hardline where the program did not recognize my RAM and would only utilize a small portion of it. I will save any further description until after my important system specs.

That data is straight from my DxDIag file save taken moments ago. I am running the most current Nvidea Drivers released on Nov9. I forget the designation but I am sure it is the most recent.

I can see that my computer is using roughly 6GB of ram in the loading screen and main menu, where everything runs smoothly, but upon entering the game, it is incredibly laggy. I do not believe this is due to an issue with my hardware. Do you have any recommendations or suggestions?

Addition: I notice that my RAM will not exceed 6.4 ish GB no matter what I run, programs that used to function perfectly, now do not, like batman and titanfall. Guessing my problem is bigger than just Fallout 4, but if anyone has any solutions at all.

Finally managed to get the game to work kept crashing on launch. Many thanks to everyone that posted possible solutions.

My problem was the Compatibility to Windows 7 (64) & running as administrator.

Right click on the game Fallout 4 in the library in steam.

Properties

Local Files Tab

Browse Local Files

Right Click FALLOUT.EXE

Properties Tab

Compatibility

Check Run This Program As an Administrator

‘‘Run this mode in compatibility mode for’’ and select the dropdown for windows 7 (Mine was on Vista!)

Then do the same for FALLOUT4LAUNCHER.EXE

For all you folks having crash issues, this isnt the thread to get ideas on how to fix them. Will be better to just open a separate thread to try to get solutions. I haven't even gotten around to playing the game yet as Im on vacation until next week. I just drop in to let people know if they would be able to play the game or not, which is what the thread is for.

Again, you should be able to run the game on low settings, maybe even below low due to the Core 2 Duo...but it should run.

A crash issue I doubt youd get solutions for here. However the GTX 280 should run the game at low settings. While it may run with 4GB RAM, it may be part of your problem too depending on how well. Your board has 4 dimms with max support of 8 GB...you should be able to see a 2x4GB set.

Dont think you need a new system, but doesn't hurt to get a new card and perhaps overclock the CPU.

Its seems unbearably slow and not worthwhile.

The thing is, old GPUs like the GTX 260 and 280 are better than Intel's 5000 and 6000 chipsets. The lowest config I've seen so far running this game is the setup in the youtube link I provided in my response above this one...an i3 setup with a Intel HD 5500 chipset. Plays horrible at lowest of lows, but its running. Theres soemthing else going on here with the crashes.

The 850m is like a GTX 560 Ti or a GTX 470 according to notebookcheck. Looking at bottom levels of medium settings probably, so should run. Can't really help further with your crash issues. Again, this thread isnt the place for these questions. Suggest opening a new thread and hope for some solutions in the coming weeks.

Several users out there with a similar setup to yours are running the game around high settings. Your black screen issue is something else.

That system can probably fetch you high settings. Both the CPU and GPU are still decent, but you're looking at old technology here. The CPU socket ended long ago and the GPU is at least 4 generations behind. For $400, its actually not that bad though.

Radeon 7850 or 7870? Should get at least medium settings, the 7870 can fetch some highs. 4GB RAM is a bit on low side these days, but shouldnt prevent you from running the game. It may lag a bit however so look into upping that amount.

After running the cache it comes up Your Video Hardware Was Not Detected all setting have been set to low

I have tried everything from running in window/windowless mode, going into settings and making it compatible with all the options there and running in in administrator mode re downloading it.

Running FO4 on my SSD

I can already run this game smoothly in 1080p with 60fps with ultra settings, but next week I'll get myself a 4K TV. Obviously I want to start playing on that TV.

Will I have to prepare for great withdrawals within my graphics settings? I'm totally fine having 30fps (the more, the better though). Thanks

From benchmarks i saw, you should be able to run it at 4K and ultra settings. (30+ fps)

Your issue isnt hardware. Your setup should be able to achieve at least medium and even some high. Something else is amiss.

Ive been having crashing issues at one specific part no matter what settings I do, black screen at startup, etc . I can run most any other game but Fallout 4

Your cpu is fine. Its that intel hd 4000 thats gonna give you issues.


While it may run the game, its gonna be rather horrible

The thing is it keeps crashing at one certain point in the game, and sometimes black screen upon trying to press play. The thing is many other people are having the issue

Also has Inetal HD 4600 which seems to couse problems. i cannot play the game ;/

May want to try disabling the Intel HD 4600 entirely in the bios if you have not done so
