Unable to launch game in Full Screen Mode.

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 12:34 pm

I'm happy for you :), but techinically that's not a fix for fullscreen. In this way you will be playing the game in windowed bordeless mode at your native res, but it's not fullscreen.

Windowed mode has a lot of limitations in games (you cannot use your vsync, has frame pacing problems, more stutter and input lag and so on) so Bethesda have to fix this bug me and many other are having ASAP.

I found the solution to this. atleast it worked for me and i have exact same problems... go to your "device manager" then click "display adapters" and then disable the intel graphics card, so only the big one is working. that should solve the issue.

Yes by doing that you can launch the game in full screen but in my case the game was so slow and unplayable i have to ctrl alt del and shut down the game. So no other news about this problem?

Having the same problem on my laptop with a Nvidia GTX 860M as well. I'm able to start the game in windowed borderless mode but it isn't smooth.

Okay so someone called Tutterkop on another thread on this forum may have found a work-around for some people so I've reworded it slightly and posted it here. I'm not sure if it thinks it's in full screen mode so I can't vouch for whether V-Sync works or anything else but it's certainly displaying Fallout 4 across my whole screen now :)

Bare in mind I only have a 1080p screen so I can't vouch for this working on screens of a higher resolution either.

1) Open Fallout 4 normally so you get the pre-game settings screen. Adjust all the settings to what's right for your system. Also make sure you've UNCHECKED boarderless and windowed so it defaults to opening in full screen instead.

2) Apply the settings and EXIT.

3) Open Nvidia GeForce Experience and scan for Fallout 4 so it appears in your GeForce game library (download the latest drivers first).

4) Select Fallout 4 in GeForce Experience and click the little spanner "settings" icon. Select BOARDERLESS (NOT fullscreen) and then set the correct resolution (1920x1080 or whatever).

5) Click apply and launch Fallout 4 from WITHIN GeForce Experience, not from Steam or from your desktop.

Hey presto :) a full screen work-around while we wait for Bethesda to get their ass in gear.

Worked for me anyway ;)

I had the same problem. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe and make sure it's running in admin mode and click on all users. Got to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4\ Fallout4.exe and admin mode and click on all users. Then goto the launcher below it Fallout4Launcher.exe and do the same. Good luck. Let me know if it helped.

It's better if Bethesda comes with a patch. Since so many people have the same problem. I bought witcher 3 in pre sale, paid almost 1/3 price and i had a problem similar to this one, contacted support and they immediately replied back(not an auto response) and solved my problem. For me this game will be the last game i buy in pre-sale from bethesda.

I've changed the .ini files, run as an administrator and done the other fixes suggested in this thread and others I could find. The one I couldn't do is the geforce experience one. It shows fallout 4 under my games but says "Unable to retrieve all current settings. Try restarting the game or changing the settings within the game first." That's kind of the root of the problem though so I'm not able to do that. Suggestions?

It seems they don't care at all... I can understand that making a patch can take some time, but the worrisome thing is that nobody officially acknowledged this bug! No official words like "sorry for the problem, we acknowledged the bug and we're working on a fix", nothing like that. And if you contact the support they only give useless automated replies.
What a shameful customer support.

I'm sorry, but I'm forced to give a thumb down on steam and a bad metacritic vote after almost a week without any info (not talking about hotfix!). I suggest you to do the same.

I can't agree more, I already thumbed down on steam, and also decided to have pirated games of bethesda from now on.

I pay about 50$ per Fallout 4 and it can run only in borderless mode on my pc with I7 and 4k monitor.

Think about how looks 1400*900 window with game in 4k monitor?

Also think that my last game from bethesda, if there no any patch in a week.

Fallout 4 earned over $750 million in 24 hours.

http://fortune.com/2015/11/16/fallout4-is-quiet-best-seller/

Bethesda can you PLEASE use some of that money to hire one person to give us an official response to this issue? We have paid good money to support you on release, the very LEAST you could do is give an official response to this issue so many users are having. It's [censored] disgusting customer service. Not even an acknowledgement.

They are waiting modders and tweakers to try to fix the game for them. If after some months no user made fix is found, they release a quick fix that screws the game in other parts.

And what about all of us who are having meanwhile a lot of serious techincal problems caused by their rushed game?

"Who cares, we already got your money!!"
