Hi friends!

So I really want to recruit Paladin Danse, but I can't seem to get him to join my party! I've completed the quest "Call to Arms" and I've also joined the Brotherhood, yet I'm still not getting the option to take him as a companion. I've even helped Knight Rhys and Scribe Haylen, but I've figured they just kind of give you quests in an infinite loop. Am I missing something? I was hoping to recruit him before progressing further into the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you helped protect the people from the feral ghouls yet? After you help him, he will offer himself as a companion. Have you heard the broadcast about "support in the fight against Feral Ghouls that attack the police station in Cambridge."? I think you have to get that message for it to trigger those quests first.

You know what, it doesn't look like I have! Any idea as to where I can hear the broadcast? This already helps a lot, all the guids online are just so new and are so vague!

Actually, do you happen to mean the broadcast that leads you to the police station? I got that one, I even completed a different quest that Danse gave me after everything was said and done. Now when I talk to him, I'm not getting any dialog options

Did you complete the quest successfully? If so, did you miss when he asked about being your companion? Once you turn him down, I'm not sure you can get him afterward.

Try going back to a save prior to doing his quests and all quests he gives you and paying close attention.

Yeah :/ the only option I was really given was to join the Brotherhood, I've basically said yes to everything when he'd actually talk to me, lol. I'm even trying to look videos up, but no one seems to have Paladin Danse recruitment videos or guides.

I have the same problem. I met him when I first heard the distress call and helped him defend the police station. Then I went through the questline where you follow him to the factory to get the transmitter. I followed him back to the police station and he asked me to help the Knight and Scribe on their quests (clearing an area and finding some tech, respectively). After completing each of those once, I was able to do the one where I searched for the lost patrol. Did that and got my rewards (xp and the 'starred' gun). Danse just has one-line dialogue now. Stuff like "I'm busy right now" and "{Knight} and {Scribe} still need help". I thought that I needed to do more of their random quests, but I've done two more of each of them and still nothing. I joined the BoS shortly after being offered. I delayed just to send Preston away since he was being pretty obvious that he didn't support the decision and I didn't want the negative approval points from him.

I'm kind of stumped. Nothing online explains what I'm doing wrong. Does it happen later? And, if so, what do I have to do to trigger it? I hope it's not a bug. I expect bugs in Bethesda games, but Danse is the companion that I want to romance, so it would svck if I can't get him on this playthrough. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm so glad that I wasn't the only one having this issue! I managed to get a pretty good response from someone on Youtube, this is what they told me.

With that being said, I'm going to go ahead and play more I just didn't want to get too far, cause like you, I also want to romance him in this playthrough!

When you do get him, would you please come back and tell us how it was triggered so I can better help others with this issue? That would be awesomely kind of you all.

I'm actually having a similar problem! I've completed "Call to Arms," "Semper Invicta," and "The Lost Patrol," but I've never once gotten the opportunity to recruit Paladin Danse as a companion.

The only thing I can think of that might have broken the whole thing is that I initially refused to join the Brotherhood of Steel after "Call to Arms" (via the "Not Sure" option), then accepted the offer pretty much immediately after (still in front of ArcJet), but that's the only thing I can think of.

**EDIT: Since this might be relevant, I have also not yet completed the "Diamond City" part of the main quest

Hi friends! First off, thank you for all the help. I finally got far enough into the main story, I can confirm that you must hit Diamond City and do a few more quests down the line before being able to recruit Paladin Danse. I cannot vouch that my method is 100% accurate, but this is basically the order I played my game in and the choices that I've made;

(I tried to keep this as spoiler free as possible)

1) Meet Danse and a small group of the Brotherhood after listening to a radio broadcast while walking to Diamond City

2) Complete Call to Arms (the first quest Danse gives you). Once completed, you will have the opportunity to join the Brotherhood.

3) Joined the Brotherhood

4) Helped Knight Rhys and Scribe Haylen

5) Received another quest from Danse after helping Haylen, quest given "The Lost Patrol". Now I may be wrong, but I do not believe this quest is mandatory, this is simply the order in which my playthrough led me

6) Continued on with the main story, and made it to Diamond City

7) After meeting a certain journalist, I spoke with a Diamond City security guard posted at the entrance which led me to the quest; "Unlikely Valentine"

8) Unlikely Valentine is part of the main story, you must complete this quest chain. The end of this quest will lead you to Fort Hagen

9) Once finished with Fort Hagen, I was immediately rewarded with "Shadow of Steel". This quest is your ticket to traveling with Paladin Danse.

Hope this helps! I doubt it's needed, but I am currently playing on the Xbox One.

Just came here to report the same thing. Just got Danse as well. Just needed to get through the Diamond City part of the main quest.
