Struggling to find decent weapons?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 1:57 pm

Ok so im at level 9 at the moment and currently have awful weapons. The best weapon i have is probably the energy rifle from the police station quest, but i've yet to find any replacement ammo.

So at the moment im stuck with a bolt action pistol from a boss i found, and a horribly outdated sniper which scratches most enemies i face. Anyone else think its pretty hard to find good weapons? Its either that or im just unlucky

I used a compensated, hardened, long barreled automatic combat shotgun.

I use the 10mm pistol. Used it right from the start. That thing has served me well through the whole game - the main story and the whole 36 hours I've put in so far.

I took the Gun Nut perk though, and I spend time and resources on upgrades. The modified 10mm I have now is an absolute beast. Absolute. BEAST.

The, uh, musket laser? That's decent too.

LVL 12 here and packing: - one mean and lean heavily modified 10 mm pistol

- heavy mod pipe bolt action .3008 rifle with scope for long range

- semi mod long double barrel shotgun

- heavy mod pipe auto rifle with drum mags (weeeeeeeee!)

Gotta love the crafting system, its the BEST and I'm the BEAST!

I got a freezing hunting rifle from a legendary enemy, it's now a silenced 50. Cal freezing sniper rifle.

Weapon mods are crazy

Upgrade your weapons.

I turned a pipe rifle into a sniper rifle.

^^ This. I feel like until we know more about the game and can beeline to some overpowered uniques right from beginning, weapon modding is the most reliable way to have powerful weapons. With only gun nut level 1, my 10mm had as much damage as the laser musket when my character was level 3! Furthermore, even unique weapons can be modded, so investing in gun nut and science is a very good investment.

I love how customizable pipe guns are.

Also I made a pretty crap looking combat rifle into a very intimidating sniper rifle. Weapon modding is pretty fun

Anyone know if there are any Katanas in the game? Kinda new to the overall franchise and not sure if they are in FO4. Want to have a Michonne vibe from TWD with my chick.

(Good) weapons are much rarer in Fallout 4 than in Fallout 3. You'll often find great weapons, but not have the ammo for them. I've got a modified .44 pistol that punches like a BEAR, but only 5 bullets for it.

Like others had said, the answer is modding and crafting weapons. I found a short rifle on a raider, and modified it into a quick reloading scoped long-barreled sniper rifle. That thing nicely takes raider heads off now. And it serves the dual purpose of being my scouting spyglass.

Modding your own weapons is certainly satisfying, you can mod then to your own preferences.

Here are some of mine that I'm lugging around at lvl 13, I gave Dragon Breath to my companion.

Yes the names are a bit silly, but it is a lot easier to spot them in the inventory.

Most weapons you find will be pretty much crap until you take them to a bench and tweak them around a little. Gun nut is pretty much a mandatory perk.

Beyond that, I feel weapon modding is a little too limited. Like if you're the unlucky son of a gun that only ever find bolt action pipe guns, you're pretty much stuck with bolt action pipe guns. There's no way to change a bolt action into a semi auto or automatic. You can only mess with what's already there, which is kind of a far cry from the E3 demo which demonstrated literally turning a pistol into a fully automatic light machine gun. Kind of a let down, but still powerful enough that one could turn their 10mm into a 1911, a desert eagle, or an Uzi.

Special Laser Rifle from shortly after the police station

magic rolling pin I got from a legendary radroach

Have 2 chain guns but dont carry them. Think I got 2 flamethrowers too

You get a mini gun really early and there is a Fat Man very close to Sanctuary Hills.

Plenty of weapons in this game. Too many in fact. Scavengers should have picked the place clean by now...

Level 18 here with 7 luck and Gun Nut and Science! perks at rank 2. I'm doing really good on weapons right now and ammo. I have a shotgun that's doing over 100 damage. It makes all my problems disappear :) One thing that I noticed is that Fo4 gives you a decent amount of ammo - collectively. If you try to just invest in one gun, you're gonna have a bad time. I have a close range, mid range, and long range weapon of choice hot keyed that all use different ammo types.

I love the modding mechanic. You can turn a pistol into a rifle and vice versa.

Was using a hunting rifle for a while , served me well until I found a hardened sniper rifle , outside exploring and can ping [censored] from miles away and usually one or two hits does the trick , close quarters a modded double barrel all day , 10mm with tons of ammo as a back up

At level 9 you won't be finding plasma weapons just yet. I'm still running with an automatic pipe rifle at level 24. Granted I have a few odds and ends, but I make do with what I have ammo for. Also modding early game weapons can go a long way. I managed to get a legendary 10mm early on. It ignores 30% of enemy damage res. I modded it to be a complete power house. Just keep searching, wanderer.
