So I sent Preston to Red Rocket when I wanted to take on another companion. He is no where to be found in this place. Any fixes?

I had this problem yesterday. If you're currently in progress on taking the settlement which requires you to meet Preston nearby, he will be at the potential settlement, not the settlement you assigned him to.

Just looked it up since I couldn't remember the name of the quest. It's called Taking Independence.

I already done that quest, but I took your advice and triggered a quest to go and speak to him, sure enough he was at the truck stop.

I found that, after completing "Taking Independence," Preston walks back to the settlement he was assigned to. He may have just been in transit.
