You really shouldn't install anything to: C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86). Windows places file access restrictions on those directories (if Windows is installed to C:\).

try running the exe as admin if that doesn't work..give it access through the firewall..though I've never had this problem and always installed to the windows directory.

Do it write anything not in user profile? Seems like it mustn't do it, no?

Also, anyway - when I tryed to run it as admin (I must have access in this mode, right?) - I get same crash.

upd. about firewall - I tryed to completely turn if off. No matter.

Bit of an issue

I jokingly predicted that all the chaos gangs of North America should go to war if Fallout 4 doesn't work on launch;

So I can't get the game to run; I meet all the sys req's and I know my computer is running fine;

I paid good $ for this game over a month ago, and have anticipated playing it for years now;

plz help

=)

no, it's better when an expensive product funcions

for example, I payed good $ for eternal crusade alpha, and it actually works and is playable

=)

I remember my Fallout 1 and 2 CD's those bother were install and run

Fallout 3 also worked fine

Disks on Console work every time

why does this program seem to not function for many customers?

why does this not make me happy like when I used to fallout?

Of course, but anyway it's better to provide this information.

Anyway, it's better to provide this information.

Also, we have a chance to have non-common bug (but right, it mustn't be a customer problem) :-)

I can wait for the game to be functional to pay money for it

Or actually, can you walk me through how to help you help me fix your product?

I do not know how to access things like crash reports;

Usually I just buy a game, download it, and then play it;

plz help;

I paid good money, we all did, why does the game not run?

"we have a chance? ok so I can still refund on steam right?"

Yes, seems like steam refund can be used in situations like this.

"Or actually, can you walk me through how to help you help me fix your product?"

Maybe you log contains something usefull information (see instruction below). Anyway, I also just a customer and not know anything f4-specifical :-)

"I do not know how to access things like crash report"

About event log : sorry, but I haven't english localization of windows.

Go to windows control panel and type "event log" in search box. You'll get something like "viewe event log" item. Click it, and select "windows logs/applications" and view list at right. You'll view something like next "Error 10.11.2015 11:11:48 Application Error 1000 (100)" and one of first items must be Fallout-related. You'll see information about item in bottom part of window

to Fabiano: can provide windows crash log? Seems like it have at least two types: my (crash inside fallout executable) and nvidia-related (crash inside dll nv* module).

same problem.

GTX 980 SLI ( tried with sli and off both doesnt work)

i7 4790k not over clocked

16g ram

nvidia 358.91 drivers

windows 10 pro.

thing is I tried in compat mode for win 7 and 8. tried to refresh my download and got a new one, same issue.

tried in ultra setting ( which I clearly can use ) and on lowest possible, on full screen and smallest screen size possible, on windowed and borderless.

my issue like you is that once I launch the game, it goes of for total of 4-5seconds then it will auto collapse back to desktop with no error message.

I have predownloaded my stuff off of a torrent, is that an issue? but the next patch of files ( when I deleted and re downloaded) was from steam.

tried as well to delete my drivers and redownload and tried the beta ones.

please just tell us if you are looking for a solution I'd be happy but being in the dark is super annoying.

note sure how to add the crash log tbh I went to the even viewer but cant say which one is the one I am looking for as I make it crash again but no new event is recorded.

If you are using Steam on windows 8 then there is a good chance you have to run fallout 4 as if it where running on windows 7..... I know that sounds weird but it fixed this for me.
What I ended up doing was right clicking fallout 4 in my game library, pressed propertes, went to the local files panol, pressed "browse local files" and it opened up a new window. There will be the file "fallout4launcher.exe" and your right click that and press properties, go to the compatibility tab, check "Run this program in comparability mode for:" and change it to windows 7. I would also recommend checking the "Run this program as an administrator" since that dose help in the long run.

About administrator - not in this case, I tryed it with admin rights and turned off UAC.

Also, W7 compability mode has no effect (but maybe it'll helps with some bugg with same effects)

Hey guys,

Started another thread to with list of fixes and things to try, but I see a few of you in here with the same problem as me are also Nvidia card users and have tried most of what I did.

Try Backdating your graphics drivers to 353.06. Yes conventional wisdom says DOWNLOAD LATEST DRIVERSSS!!!!!!! But that doesn't always work.

I used the GURU3D graphics uninstaller as well, as NVIDIA installer doesn't like backdating.

Tried all kinds of troubleshooting but backdating to 353 series of drivers is what worked when the game wouldn't launch.

Good luck!!!

Only the 'program files' directories. You could manually create a directory, for example: 'C:\games'. And this would be fine.

While there may be other issues, it generally recommended not to use 'program files' install paths for anything related to gaming.

That being said, you'll want to reinstall Steam as well as Fallout 4.

I have a launcher issue; When I open Fallout 4 in Steam the Fallout 4 launcher comes up and once I hit play a Steam window comes up and says preparing to launch Fallout 4. Then, window closes and then the Fallout 4 launcher reappears.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
