GamebryoCreation Engine. Again. Why?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 2:39 pm

Oh, well yeah. I claimed they had time to make, buy, or modify a better one (not in those words exactly) earlier. Modify they do by default, but the magnitude of improvement is yet to be seen. If you expect the worst, you'll be pleasantly surprised when it's not..

So do you!

(Sorry, always wanted to say that.)

I'm not big on the engine either, but that's mostly because of how poorly it worked on the PS3. Hopefully it'll perform better this time around. Not that I plan on getting Fallout 4 until I get a PC anyway.

There was?

They should at least iron out the animations. With a new console generation after 9 years, I would think they would finally jump on getting a new engine. Maybe they just figure they don't need to because they make tons of cash either way.

I look at something like Kingdom Come: Deliverance and wonder why it looks so good, which will have some kind of modding for players when it releases, and why Bethesda keeps with shoddy animations and boxy-polygon objects. inb4 alpha?

Will someone explain to me what an accessible and streamlined engine for modders has to do with bad animation? I really don't know. Can't they just have good animation? Does it really take more resources that CreaBryo can't handle? A lot of it has to do with tying strong physics to certain animations, doesn't it?

I don't know what Kingdom Come Deliverance is, so it may completely invalidate this, but keep in mind the Fallout series is (or has been) one of those games where there are a lot of different calculations going on at any time. Particularly when combat breaks out. You need a system that will handle that, plus all the regular stuff, plus all the items that decorate the world, plus...other things.

If Kingdom Come Deliverance is a FPS or other game with smaller areas and less need to return to previously explored areas, that is why. If it is more complicated, I dunno. Time, $, Time x $

For me it's not about graphics or laziness. It's about the bad gameplay and awkward movement/combat specifically that results from this particular engine.

Now, I watched the trailer and quickly just knew it was the gamebryo/ creation engine again because of the bad animations. Yes, it has improved noticeably graphically, but I care more about having characters that move in a way that feels good.

I'd actually be fine with them upgrading the same engine if they fixed its problems, but the problems with this engine keep being an issue, game after game. It seems like it's not worth sticking with it. Mods have never fixed the awkward gameplay, so mod-ability is a non-issue for me. The very basics of gameplay - down to simple act of moving a character - suffering is a bigger problem than having a less mod-friendly game IMO.

why in hell do people keep babbling on the quality og the graphics

like some of you do

since when is the most importa,t aspect of a game its graphics

that the trailler looks like a souped up skyrim engine so what

do any of you know how much time and investment it takes to create a new engine and why should they since the one they used last time did what it had to do , no engine is perfect if it was every game would use the same engine

besides since when is fallout a game about graphics

it never was

i rather have good solid graphicss combined with a great game than picture perfect graphics combined with little or no content

You are right, I watched the trailer of the Deliverance's open world and it looks amazing. I don't know what's under the hood, if Bethesda's games full of clutter have specific needs that can't be fulfilled by CryEngine and the likes, but I sure as hell hope some day I'll play a TES or Fallout built on a engine that looks so gorgeous.

I believe the Royal Vampire Armor in Dawnguard had some physics modelling. Or so i've heard, never noticed myself :hehe:

But there are some awesome armors using the HDT SKSE plugin that do have separate moving parts and flowing skirts. So it is possible to achieve even with the Skyrim version of the engine.

Yeah, tried Fallout 3 the other day, and the character actually slides forward. Even continuing to slide for a moment after releasing the movement keys  The jumping is really bad too, very difficult to climb on top of anything. And of course the rule of thumb, if a deathclaw can't fit trough it, a bullet won't fit trough it either

But those things were improved for Skyrim (except that last), so maybe they'll further improve for F4

I just remember a having a piece of cardboard taped to the back of my Nightingales.

I also remember a "realistic hair physics" mod for Serana that made her hair practically dance with the slightest movement. Then again, the video also had her doing the supermodel catwalk walking animation and idles, so maybe it behaved normally when those weren't being used.

Yeah, there are some physics enabled hairs available too. Really makes ponytails look good when they aren't stiff.

Hopefully there is someone to make a HDT equivalent for F4 too

You should watch gameplay demonstrations from the developers themselves, or sign up for the alpha/beta and play it yourself to see in-person how good it looks, with clutter, NPC lifecycles and all. I don't doubt Fallout 4 will look amazing on PC once modded. I already know I'll be doing my own textures for it. That I can't wait for!

There is nothing wrong with the engine. Look at what modders can do in terms of animations an graphical overhauls. Me thinks the sometimes limited time between announcements and release 11/11/11 and all that, makes the devs finish up with too much haste and tend to prioritize. Apparently bugs and animations aren't a priority. Still love their games to bits though.
