Pip-Boy Selector Button Missing a Screw

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 10:21 pm

Unpacked my FO4 Pip-Boy edition today and started playing with the knobs, dials and buttons as you would expect.

To my horror the "Selector Button" depressed right into the body at an angle and wouldn't come back out.

I couldn't believe the unit was broken after being unpacked for about 3 minutes so I decided to disassemble it to see what was wrong.

After unscrewing the top from the wrist housing I discovered the selector button was only attached with a single screw yet should have been attached with two.

Not only that, the screws that attach the button have a flanged head and smaller thread size and one of those screws had been used to attach the top to the housing.

I put the button back into it's correct position and reattached it correctly with the two flange head screws.

On top of this, when I was reattaching the top, one of the self-tapping screws now turns in it's plastic threaded hole as the hole appears to have been chewed in the factory.

When screwing in self tappers that have been previously screwed in I always turn the screw slightly counter clockwise until the threads "click" to ensure I don't cut a new thread but this thread was already damaged.

I'll have to fill this hole with glue or something to repair it.

This "toy" adds about $100 AUD to game price over here in Oz so it's not exactly cheap.

I'm really, really disappointed Bethesda, I expected much better QA here.

I have pics but as a new user can't upload them or post links.

Woah, if I had been one of the people who got a pip boy I would not have been happy if this had happened. Hopefully QA gets right on this quick.

I have this exact same issue - and I feel like I've been 'screwed' by Bethesda.

Could someone from Bethseda please get in touch with t00bs and I? Urgently?

Hey all,

If you have an issue with your Pip-Boy, you can contact Customer Support at http://help.bethesda.net/app/ask

When contacting support with your warranty issue, please attach a proof of purchase image that includes the product name, date, and purchase information to your request along with a photo of the unique defect.

I have contacted support.

They said they can't help as I bought it elsewhere - despite sending proof of purchase.

They then said to follow an online guide - but didn't link one.

When I asked them to link one, they told me it could take five days for shipping

Seriously? This is support?

Try again. Help us.

I've been able to fix mine myself with a bit of time in the workshop so I don't need to contact support.
That said there are probably people who have received similar poorly manufactured Pip-Boys who aren't as mechanically apt and capable of fixing it themselves.
When I contacted my game retailer they said they have no stock for a warranty replacement and also said it would take about 8 weeks to turn it around.
It would be nice if someone from Bethesda at least asked to see my pics with a view to putting better QA measures in place with the manufacturer.
You would expect this would be in their interest for the next game release that comes with collectable merchandise.
It's a simple fact of life that problems occur and that includes quality control issues with high volume manufacturing.
It's not so important that a problem occurred but what you do to address the problem and keep the customer satisfied.
Bethesda is the most respected game studio / distributor in the world.
Don't tarnish your brand within the gaming community by selling crap merchandise and not doing anything to rectify it.
At least acknowledge the issue.

I have also contacted support and the response was to contact support or open a thread on the forum.

The button is pushed in and I cannot get it out without taking it apart and I am not wanting to do that.
