i would be concerned about how I would be able to navigate it through all the rubble, as well as question if BGS was able to solve the issue most games with cars have where small objects like bushes and road signs are indestructible and stop you in your tracks.

Agree here, both would be simple to animate compared to an horse, an truck would be more like an horse an carriage who is very hard to do right.
an truck/ mobile base would be something you fast traveled with or called with an correct AI update/ left an companion in it.
Note that an ATV could fit companion and an sentry gun on top, it would work as an robot companion with some limited mobility
