what type of character do you try to play i try to be good and do the right thing but then you come across some people you just need to put a frag grenade in there pockets and walk away. or like when you help vault 101 and they still tell you to leave so i kill them. just wanted to know if you start out playing good or bad and any story's you have to share

I always end up having multiple characters for different alignments. but usually I either like to play characters that have a strong sense of morality but are put in situations where they constantly have to bend their morals up to the point where they end up having to do terrible things and whispering to themselves "im not a bad man"

Neither, pragmatic with some compassion, well aware you get further with a helping hand, but not afraid to get bloodied if he needs to be.

it's all depending on what decisions i make in the missions, or if i'm in a mischievous mood.

I'd make the decision before starting the game; what kind of mind the PC will have. Then stick to it, and see how that serves them.

I don't really care, I guess my main characters always end up being somewhat chaotic neutral. I usually end up with good karma though.

My first play through of a game, is generally done pretty much the way I would do it in real life. So as an example: in Raven Rock when I stumble across Nathan Vargas, I think to myself as he disappears around a corner, "Good luck, you old moron." When I run across Anne Holt, I kneecap her. As I leave Raven Rock loaded down with all that sweet Enclave gear, there is always a small pang of regret that I don't have the time to watch Anne Holt attempt to crawl to safety while trailing blood behind her.

But if you look at me very closely at me, and squint really hard, you may detect a nasty little streak of decency in me, so Roy Phillips is going to finally be able to "talk" to Alistair Tenpenny.

I nearly always play the hero, unless I've played multiple times and I just want to see what other options look like (like playing the DB twice in about 40 Skyrim play-throughs).

I always play the good sneaky thief, mostly because evil characters always seemed to suffer too much to make it worthwhile, while the thief part is just because I needs me shiny!

Maybe if there was a serious karma loss with each theft I'd stop robbing stores blind, but as it is it's not held me back from being a savior.

I think I'm going to try to do a very neutral character my first time. Handling things in a case-to-case manner rather than applying one moral outlook to the whole play-through.

I think evil or neutral characters would have a lot more draw for me if there were traitorous or a more even distribution of evil characters to band with.

In FO3 there were the slavers you could join and the slavers in the Mall. There may be a couple others, but mostly the other evil characters were not able to be aligned with (the enclave comes to mind) while any good person would treat you like trash for being aligned with them.

In NV, the only people that seemed evil that you could align with were the powder gangers and the legion. The rest of the population seemed to be wholly against them.

Maybe I just fell short in fully exploring the evil character play through, so if there's something I missed, please let me know.
