Issue with Fallout 4

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:33 pm

Long story made as short as possible: downloaded Fallout 4 for PC, and I'm having problems in the graphic department. Basically, the game is supposed to auto-detect which settings it should be at (ultra). But, when I go into the settings, the resolution is at 800x500. So, I set it to ultra and fix the resolution, however it doesn't save the settings. So basically I have to play the game as if it's a little tiny window on my screen instead of fullscreen like it should be. As of right now, I deleted the local content and I'm now re-downloading the game in hopes that something might have went wrong in the install the first time. I won't be able to check it until later due to class. If this reinstall doesn't work, how would I be able to fix it so I can play the game in it's 60fps 1080p fullscreen glory?

Fixed it. My problem was that Fallout didn't have enough permission to write in my documents folder where it stores Save games, ini files(Including the graphics one). So when it tried creating the ini file for graphics it failed and then reset to the default one.

How I fixed this:

Moved the game to my C drive (You're not obligated to do this if you have the game on another hard drive. I just did this because I want to be sure it works.)

I went to the fallout folder where it's installed "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4"

Then I right clicked the Fallout4.exe went to properties then compatibility and then checked the "Run as administrator" box. I did the same thing with the Fallout4Launcher.exe in the same directory. And then when it launches it has permission to write and edit files in your documents folder. And it can without no problems save your game and graphics etc.

IMPORTANT RUN THE GAME VIA THE FALLOUT.EXE NOT STEAM UNLESS YOU'RE 111% SURE THAT STEAM IS IN ADMINISTRATOR MODE.

Okay so if you game crashes on Launching the game;

Here might be a fix, if your using AMD, update the drivers to the latest BETA driver, then goto AMD control Panel (you may be using 1 or more Screen's) After going to the AMD control center, click Desktop Management > Creating and Arranging Desktops > 1 by 1 make each f them Primary.

Example make one primary, test game, doesn't work move on to next one.

Hope this help's, this has helped me and 2 others since i found this out!

Okay so, ritolika, what you suggested did help with my graphics problem. However, it's not allowing me to save. I didn't discover this until...well...I was already five hours into the game...fml. :[

FORGOT TO MENTION> If your steam is not in administrator mode launch fallout via the fallout4.exe. Otherwise only the launcher will be in admin mode and saving won't work.

How to run steam in admin mode for newbies.

  1. Completely exit Steam
  2. Right-click on the shortcut which you use to launch Steam
  3. Select "Run as Administrator"
