Pip-boy app Connection Status: Connection Error!

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 5:01 pm

I enabled the pip-boy app in the settings and restarted. Now when I run the app and scan for the game, it finds the IP address of the PC I am running it on. I select it and it tries to connect, but after a bit it comes up with a "CONNECTION STATUS: Connection Error!" page with just an Ok button.

I selected ok on the Firewall prompt that came up after I restarted Fallout 4 and I've manually verified the game is enabled in the firewall settings. I've tried restarting the game and the app several times. Any ideas?

Did you enable the Pip Boy in the game settings? I was poking around in there this morning and saw that setting. I just downloaded the app to my phone so I have not tried putting it all together yet.

Yes. The first sentence in my post was "I enabled the pip-boy app in the settings and restarted". Before I did that it didn't even find my machine and prompted me to enable it. Now if finds my machine, but fails to connect.

I a having same issue.... I am trying on 2 different devices (Android and Win Phone) neither can find the PC. I feel like it must be port that needs to be opened on the router, but all common ports are already opened and the game is allowed thru.

Hello, I registered to try and help out.

I guess the checklist should be:

1) Make sure you have Pip-boy enabled, and then restart the game. (You said you did this).

2) Make sure your mobile devices is actually connected to wifi and isn't using mobile data. It must be connected to wifi.

3) Setup Firewalls.

When I ran Fallout 4 after enabling the pipboy app, it requested the following firewall settings in windows:

INBOUND RULE

-----

Name: Fallout 4

Group:

Profile: Private

Enabled: Yes

Action: Allow

Override: No

Program: C:\steam\steamapps\common\fallout 4\fallout4.exe

Local Address: Any

Remote Address: Any

Protocol: TCP (A separate rule was set for UDP with the other settings identical)

Local Port: Any

Remote Port: Any

Allowed Users: Any

Allowed Computers: Any

-----

When I get a chance to play again today, I'll try and use some tools to find out what port it's actually using. I wouldn't be surprised to see it using port 80 or 443 which is semi-standard for applications that don't want to bother with firewalls. In that case, make sure you're not running Skype in the background, as Skype is pretty notorious about interfering with those ports by default.

Good luck!

Android is connected to WiFi and the settings are in the firewall correctly.

I ran Wireshark to see if that shed any light on what is going on. Once I selected PC, it goes to a "Scanning for Devices..." screen. I see a "ADwin configuration protcol" packet sent from my phone (192.168.10.127) to broadcast (255.255.255.255). My PC (192.168.10.104) sends a UDP message to my phone. At this point the android comes up with a "Device selection" screen which shows "PC 192.168.10.104).

I then select the PC and I get a "Connecting..." screen. Wireshark shows the android send a TCP packet directly to the PC to port 27000 but get no reply from Fallout 4. It re-sends the packet 3 more times about 2 seconds apart. After getting no reply, it finally displays "Connection Status: Connection Error!" on the android.

So it seems the android app is working correctly, but Fallout 4 wasn't sending a reply. Running "netstat -ab" on the PC shows that port 27000 was listening, but not by Fallout 4. Turns out the Dialogic HMP licence manager uses the same port (I am a software developer if you couldn't tell). Once I disabled that and restarted Fallout 4, the pip-boy app connected and is now working! :)

I have confirmed my issue to be related to Firewall port settings on my home router. As I just tried with a public router and pip boy works like a champ! So that means, at least for me, that my home router is being too secure.

I will open 27000 and test at home.

Nice, I hadn't thought of another app using the same port. Had the same issue and ran netstat to find that a license manager for some simulation software was listening on 27000. Killed the process and had a successful connect!

I have the same issue overall, but running netstat shows that there is only one app (Fallout4.exe) using 27000.

1. Pip Boy is enabled in game

2. Firewall is open for the ports

I have the Pip Boy app running on an iOS Ipad just fine. Then when I saved a few games and went to reload those games I continually get a "Connection Status: Connection Error!" in the Pip Boy app.

If I go to the Connection Setup in the Pip Boy app, it can see my IP for my computer and it says it connects successfully, but then it constantly goes back to "Connection Status: Connection Error!"

The weird part is if I go back and load an earlier save game the Pip Boy app starts working again. I have also been playing with the Pip Boy working for a week now and all of a sudden this happens.

UPDATE: I think I figured out why mine wasn't working. I set my carry limit to a larger number and I was carryinhg quite a bit of armor and guns that I did not really need. When I scrapped, sold, and stored most of it my Pip Boy Connection started working again. I guess the moral is if you change or mod anything in the game, there is a potential it will effect the Fallout4 Application from communicationg with the Pip Boy application.
