How much for the original Fallout?

Post » Wed May 26, 2010 12:01 am

So, I want to buy the original Fallout. I mean the ORIGINAL fallout. I want the Old School box, the thick manual, the original CD. I love this series. I already have the box trilogy, but I want the original vintage version. If you could find an orignal Fallout in good condition, how much would you pay for i?

Ummm... hey, thanks, but that link is to a metal fallout sign for $25; not the Fallout PC game. I've looked on E-Bay and the original Fallout PC game seems to be rare; one that was the manual and jewel case ONLY seemed to have sold for $25. I know someone selling one and I am trying to see what their fair market value is. Anyone?

I already have the vintage box, since I bought it when it first came out... but if I didn't, I suppose I'd pay about $80 for the complete box, CD and manual in good condition; and $150-$200 for the complete box, CD and manual in near-mint or mint condition.

If I had to guess, I'd say the number of complete, original box sets you can find for sale on the Internet could be counted on two hands, and the number of near-mint or mint complete sets could be counted on two fingers.

Also, there's no "fair market price" for obscure stuff like this. It usually ends up being all about how much the seller is willing to let it go for, and how much the buyer is willing to pay for it. But for my idea of "fair," see the first line of my post.

While I am sure it is not one of the more common old games to buy, I doubt it is that rare. I have bought some old, obscure games and they do cost a pretty penny in near-mint condition, due to rarity, but that doesn't mean your options are that limited.

For instance, Bethesda's Daggerfall is probably in roughly the same league, sales and circulation wise, and those are all over ebay all the time (albeit for $100).

Search for yourself, and see what you can dig up, if you're interested. Availability depends on whether or not buyers will actually place something up for auction, and that fact that Fallout has remained in print and commercially available in various editions for twelve years running means it's harder to find originals up for sale, let alone boxed sets in good condition.

eBay alone has not a single complete boxed set available, let alone one in near-mint or mint condition. I found http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400053263038#ebayphotohosting for the EU edition of Fallout via Google, and a few threads in certain gaming forums advertising them for sale, but that's about it.

If you can do better, then by all means, be my guest. :coolvaultboy:

Oh I am sure you are right that it is rare, I am just doubting the "number of mint copies on two hands" thing...

Still, for people interested in these things, it would be quite the epic hunt I suspect.

Okay, so it wounds like $80 is basically the minimum that I could expect to pay. The person I foudn is asking $100, which I thought was a little high. I guess I'll have ot pass because $100 is more than I am willing to part with for the novelty of having the original. Thanks guys.

in Europe a box set is out for some monts now and you can buy it in almost every store.

the box contains Fallout 1 and 2 + tactics. nothing special and I bought it for.... 10 euro's.... in the freerecord shop.

I missed tactics in my collection so now I have fallout 1, fallout 1 +2 in a box and Fallout 1,2,tactics.....etc. etc.
And now I can sell it 80 dollars..... :D

The people in this thread were talking about the original vintage Fallout in original packaging...as in the version that was initially released and is no longer being manufactured or distributed.
