1) Build generator. 2) Place a power connector on the outside wall. For larger buildings, several connectors may be required. 3) Run a wire from the generator to the connector (then from connector to connector until all are connected).
Pylons have a long range and are generally the only way to connect wires around corners. Use conduits and place them on the outside of a building close to the power input. Or you can rig it up inside and hang it from the ceiling to hopefully use less wire - although this won't power things on the outside. I don't know if there's a more efficient method for this, though, because it consumes a lot of copper.
Where are the wires to connect the pylons?... What is the item called? I do not see it in the build options.
This one confused me too. If you are on PC, enter work mode and check your prompts below the object you want wired, once you highlight it. Space bar will start and finish each end.
Be in Build/Scrap mode. Place cursor on the connector on the generator. Hit space bar (PC). That will cause the connector to look like it is sparking. Move the cursor over to the connector on the building. That causes the building's connector to be outlined in white and shows a power line stretching from generator to the building's connector. Hit space bar again; the building is now powered.
I did not know you could power a building... been trying to figure that out.
So place a connector on the wall and then run a line from the generator to it?
I've run lines before but never to a house. Does this mean all the lights you hang inside the house that do not have a direct wire option will be on? Or like the appliances that say they need power but you can not connect a direct wire to?
The way it works is that once you place a power connector to the outside of the house, that floor you attached the connector to is powered. Depending on the size of the generator, you can run various appliances/lights which require power.
If you want to power another floor, you'll need another connector, repeat for other floors.
If a light isn't working, then it's likely the power doesn't extend far enough on the floor. I've yet to figure out how this whole thing works, but I believe anything longer than "3 blocks" isn't covered. I ran a receptable to the back of the house to run power, and now all 4 floors of my home are powered.
You do not need to run wires directly to lights, but some things require a direct connect (if they don't attach to walls/ceilings).
Walking in an seeing a spinning ceiling fan in the wasteland is rather neat.
Yeah, larger structures require more lines. I built a "peasant" hotel in Sanctuary, five stories, and about six wooden prefabs x 4. It's pretty huge, houses 22 beds, and a game room with pool table, etc. To power that I had to run wire around each floor, and then run a wire up through the middle of the backside.
I put a generator behind the house you have in sanctuary and put a connector on the wall by the kitchen. now the kitchen is powered but the living room and hallway/bedrooms are not. I moved another connector down the outside of the wall by Shaun's room. But it won't power the hallway lights. I will say it is cool to come home after a long day of killing raiders and such and finding my house all lit up with a warm glow... and search lights and turrets on the roof LOL
I didn't even think about using the existing houses. I just cleared them of everything to build my own house. I don't know if the electricity stuff worked on existing structers, but now I do. Thanks! I'll set up generators for all the houses now.
I started building a steel wall around Sancturary before running out of steel. I put turrets guarding the wooden bridge and one on the furthest foundation after tearing down the house.
So far, so good, but I'm not sure when this game starts turning on attacks (no info, please - want to see for myself).
Thanks for this topic.
I've fully moved into the Boathouse now but the only bummer (Beyond the gapping hole in the roof I can't seem able to build over) was the fact it was totally unpowered. Time to fix that.
I wonder if this works on the Red Rocket truck stop.... it could use a few more lights to look like an old diner rebuilt.
The more powered structures you have, the more power it consumes. Generators can only power so many things, so upgrade the generator. I'm still experimenting with the fancier stuff, but I think there's supposed to something equivalent to the repeaters from Minecraft that'll help with that.
Did for me. Then I got carried away and put two stories on top of it. /shrug.
Where did you find search lights?
Yeah, the wire from generators can only go so far. The repeaters make it easier to transmit over distance, as well as around corners. I used on on my house to get the 3rd and 4th floors powered.
Ok, I was mistaken on that. Power conduits are only capable of continuing the charge. There's no "amplifiers" available, you have to use the initial charge from a generator.
I built a 2-story building and placed all of the connectors at the top of the 2nd floor's walls. Everything on the ground floor worked just fine. I think the deciding factor is just how far a device is to the nearest connector. That suggests that each powered connector has a "sphere of influence".
Hey guys, can you post some pics of your settlements in this thread please? They sound awesome!

Thanks!
