PC UI awkwardness, refunding game.

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 8:06 am

This isn't started so much as a discussion, you can find plenty of threads already going in depth as to why the controls are so terrible on the PC version of the game. This is more of intended to make it visible to Bethesda that they have lost a sale because of the lack of care and attention given to the user interface on the PC port.

I am refunding my Fallout 4 purchase from Steam.

Sure it's bad, but i don't think it's that bad.

And i hope the SkyUI guys come back and work their magic on this mess too ^_^

as much as it weighs (space-wise) I would give them a chance to redeem themselves. Most complained of the time it took to download and install!

I think I saw that a Steam patch for it was already out! (not that it is good to patch in first 12 hours !)

Refunding the game over lackluster, but still useable, UI is a bit shallow. You are giving up on the whole game over one detail.

It's not really usable if you don't use WASD. For example, the arrow keys are hardcoded for some functions, so if you remap them, they still perform those functions, as well as the ones you wanted.

Same with the E and several other keys.

You basically have to use WASD or remap most of the keyboard with a third-party program, and then all the screen prompts are wrong and you'll have trouble typing in text like names in-game.

That's aside from inconsistent use of some of the keys, which can't be fixed by remapping.

Once again, the user base has to do the work Bethesda didn't bother to do.

I've already got my refund from steam for the same reason, 20 or so years of muscle memory isn't getting retrained for this one game.

Seriously, why would you allow PC gamers to only remap SOME keys? you put in the effort to build in remapping, then cripple it.

I don't know about the other guy Echonite, but the game isn't usable for me, so it isn't 'one detail'.

That's the thing, it's just not useable in it's current state. That's like saying the hand your write with works for you, so everyone having trouble should just switch handedness. It's really not that simple.

I'm trying out the AHK trick for now. But if there's not a fix in a few days, I'll probably get a refund meself. I'll just re-purchase at a cheaper price down the road. Maybe.

Do they not play test at all?
