So hard to tell if people really feel this way or it's just blatant trolling...
Played F3 on 360 for about 500 hours and I haven't even discovered everything. So what do I need mods for?
Mods are more than just content, dude. They make everything look and sound better, they fix bugs (like, TONS of bugs), they add player character options (hairstyles, tattoos, etc.), add weapons and armor, add entire game systems (survival, realistic needs)... I could seriously list thing for the next 25 minutes, but I won't.
To say a game wouldn't benefit from modding is about as short-sighted an opinion as I could imagine.
EDIT: But to be fair, it's your opinion, and that's fine. If you can be happy getting only what comes in Vanilla then more power to you. But once you get a taste for modding and the endless possibilities, you're ruined for life.
I have played it on PC for about 100 hours and haven't done The Pitt or Operation Anchorage. Not even once.
Still have mods, despite that.
Anyway, which mods would I want for Fallout 4?
-An alternate start or a re-interpretation of the intro. I wouldn't mind headcanoning that the intro is just another Tranquility Lane simulation which was a Vault-Tec experiment. Then, fade back to the post-apocalyptic world.
-A NV-style hardcoe mode, definitely.
-This one is much harder, but seeing as SkyUI is possible...a classic style dialogue interface like in FO3 or NV.
I'm really disappointed by the lack of weapon degradation/repair and hunger/thirst/sleep so I'd really want some mods to incorporate that,if possible.
They seem to have included a lot of what I already wanted.
Gun mods, expanded house customization and a revised character customization screen (all these sliders were starting to really get on my nerves).
But there are a few things that would be nice (in no particular order):
-No voice actor.
-No pre war married Protagonist.
-No dialog wheel.
No. If you can't role play with a voice then you can't actually role play.
You know actors those people who role play for a living? They seem to be able to act and they are only given one voice. The ability to role-play isn't actually tied to a voice. Ron perlman has been able to act as the beast/vincent in beauty and the beast, hellboy and an news announcer in fallout 4 with his one voice. but by you definitions he can't actually role-play because you know god/the universe/evolution only provided him with the one voice.
Role-playing doesn't actually mean being able to make any character you want. Role-playing means being able to play a different role than yourself. Those are two seperate things that people time and time again conflate.
That depends on what you want to roleplay as if you want to roleplay a set character no problem ,if you want to roleplay your own unique char yes it is an hinderance. You might not like the voice it doesn't fit your char etc etc.....
I want a mod where I can be a progressive transgender neo-con asian globetrotter furry with lasers shooting out of my eyes. This is non-negotiable.
Console gamers can only experience the game without mods (as you know.) So if that is the only way you have played the game that is the only way you would evaluate the game because you have no experience with how the game plays with mods. I doubt it is actually trolling. I know PC gamers who don't mod games and I am like WTF why? and the main reason is they have never done it before and so they haven't any frame of references based on experience with mods and how they enhanse the experience. Without that frame of reference mods are not all that enticing especially because they do intimidate some people, as install a mod wrong and you can ruin not only your game forcing you to reinstall but you can ruin your save game as well. That in itself can be a huge barrier for some pc users.
Granted once you successfully play with mods you can never see yourself going back but until you have that experience to draw from you don't know what mods can do for you.
I never said I say I role-play as myself. I create unique characters each playthrough - my vigilant of Stendarr sounds nothing like my Dovahkin despite being constrained by the same dialogue options because it happens instead in my head. My sophisticated yet evil Vault Dweller sounds nothing like my evil raider junky Vault Dweller. While they have a similar background, their voices aren't different. Voice is so much more than how you sound - it's how you phrase things, your inflection, your emphasis, your tone. Restricting a player to a voice means we have less power in determining personality.
I said:
"The voice is a hindrance to role-playing, no matter how it's handled. When it's without a voice actor, inflection, emphasis, and how it was said happens in your head. When it happens with a voice actor, it's predefined. When you lack a voice, you provide one yourself - it grants you a sense of control over how your character interacts with others though a dozen options even though, mechanically speaking, you just picked between three options."
This is a fact. You can still role-play. I didn't say you couldn't. You can role-play as much as you can in a game like Mass Effect or Dragon Age 2. However, from a game developer that prides themselves on putting their players in the director's seat, this is a huge step back, objectively speaking. A voice is severely limiting to our ability to role-play; a hindrance.
That isn't a hinderance to ROLE PLAYING. That is a limitation to character creation. These are two seperate issues. If you can't role play with a voice then you can't actually role play.
RPGs have ALWAYS had limitations on character creation, even Pen and paper rpgs. i can not play a WWII vet with a rifle in AD&D. Why? Because they have set limitations for character creation.
Character limitations do not stop role playing. If you can't role play within the limitations set by a game, ANY GAME, you can't actually role-play because character creation limitations don't stop your ability to role play. Character limitations may stop you from creating a character you want but that has ALWAYS been there to some degree.
You don't get to choose your voice in life but actors have been able to role play for centeries with just one voice. A limited voice selection doesn't at ALL limit your ability to role play.
I'm not saying that mods do not improve Fallout, but saying that Fallout without mods is horrible and nonplayable is just idiotic. Same with Skyrim and I DID read stuff like that so I don't understand the fuzz about mods. And I personally grew up with Atari 2600 and the very first Gameboy so I don't really care about graphical improvements too much, as long the atmosphere is good.
Again no that's not what roleplaying is.If I want my char to sound like he is a chainsmoker....would he sound like that no.Does it hindes my roleplaying yes it does....DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT? ....Apparently not.
If I make D&dD char I'm not limited to one voice. And nobody is saying that you can't roleplay but that it is an hinderance....o I want my char to speak in an accent?I can't.Do I want him to speak silently in a deep voice I can't.Do I want him to show some other way of emotion in his way of speaking I can't....
complete va removal,
i have no intention in playing Jack from weirdo effect, in fact i don't want to see anything from bw in the next 50 years and be very happy if someone nuked their hq from orbit
sob story moments "mahdeadbabeh!11" has to go aswell. But i'm not buying this game anyway, unless they hire different va
Well I must be a super duper awesome role-player because I can magically play very different characters in Mass effect, DA2 and DA:I. And surprisingly I can find other people who can create characters with personalities that I never even thought of as well. How do we do it? Must be magic. Or we actually just you know roleplay different characters.
This issue doesn't matter. it is in the game and here to stay. I said before the Bethesda would go this route because voiced PCs are the industry standard if not this game then a game in the future and it turns out it was this game. And this will be the next chicken little the sky is falling issue that bethesda fans will get their panties in a knot and the reality is the game wont suffer for it.
Fallout 3 - "OMG! you are ruining fallout with first person perspective. This game franchise is ruined it will fail!" -Yawn that so didn't happen.
Skyrim -"No attributes! I can't Role play anymore i can't build the character I want! This game will fail!" err well actually people could make divergant characters without attributes, Gopher (youtuber) was able to make vastly different characters even a weak Librarian. As for failing it was bethesda's more successful game to date.
Fallout 4 "The sky is falling the sky is fllling there is a voiced protagonist!" - Given that this is an industry standard for AAA games this wont hurt sales and the vast majority of players will somehow with super human ability manage to role play their characters.
None of that counters what I said. My point remains - from a game developer that prides themselves on putting their players in the director's seat, this is a huge step back, objectively speaking.
EDIT: You brought up Gopher, who is a good example though. Notice how he gives a voice into his character; breathes life and personality into him? There's another YouTuber, SorcererDave who does the same thing. Compare the variance between their characters and then compare the variance between Paragon Shepard and Renegade Shepard.
Can you still role-play? Yeah. Never said you couldn't. I thought Skyrim was wonderful and I thought the same of Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Bethesda Game Studios has been my favorite developer for their mantra of putting players in the director's seat. Yet, it seems like they're moving away from this.
PC voice muted.
Skills.
Replace the baby with a Gecko.
Sure they will, just add non-voiced dialogue to make those people not know you and treat you as a friend/ally/enemy for a different reason. Kinda like deleting all lines regarding the emperor in Oblivion alternate start mods.
