How are you going to play Fallout 4?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 6:05 am

Say it is the release day, you just got Fallout 4 and have just booted up the game.

How are you going to play it?

Are you going to play as "yourself" considering some NPC:s are now going to call you by the name you pick?

Or are you going to play a role, if so will you have some specific role or backstory, quirks or behaviour of this character?

Are you going to take it slow or are you going to try to "do everything" in a completionist style?

Any special rules or restrictions you are going to use? Dead is Dead etc or other rules, like eating and sleeping etc (if not built into the game)

Do you plan to stick with just this one character or make other characters later?

Other things?

Is your plan to play this game any different from how you usually go about other Fallout games (or ES games etc)

I'm going to try and forget that it's called "Fallout".

You can't play as "yourself" as the protagonist is voiced and inserts his/her own lines into the dialogue without the player's input.

I would have to say im going to put my character name as ezio, but im unsure if they say that name, as its not one of the popular names only for the assassin in assassin creed. But i would have to say im going to look around, recruit the dog and start going on adventures and looking at all the details and lightning in this world with rendering and dynamic lightning this game looks by far amazing. I would say that im going to explore a bit but now go all crazy and try figuring out stuff in one day.

I'm going to start a character that vaguely resembles me and complete every little thing in this game I can find. After that I'll restart with a different character and actually role play. I prefer to see everything the game has to offer before I place restrictions on myself.

First I will just run through the game as 'me'. What I would do in the characters situation, then when I complete it, I will roleplay.

I'm going to play my normal fallout toon.

Kane a religious zealot, whose purpose in life is to send the Unclean (ghouls/mutants) to Alvoria the sacred ivory paradise, by showing the Unclean the majestic rays (shoot them in the eyes with energy weapons and hope they disintegrate)

Only he can save the Unclean

LOL I love it! I also hate the unclean (feral ones though).

I will be the Matriarch of the safest and best managed settlement in the Wasteland! All who wander, all who are lost, will find refuge here! :) Well, there will be some rules though... The Unclean are not welcome... I mean the wild and feral ones. If they are nice, then yes, they may enter. lol

I never self-insert.

Always play the character that's there and see where it takes me.

(and usually play female characters)

I will be playing as myself on the first play through. Even my wife is excited as it looked like you can customize the spouse too. We will get a chance to see what our baby might have looked like. We don't have children together, so we will spend quite a bit of time getting the characters right. I always play as myself on a first run, and then change it up on subsequent plays.

Honestly though, there is so much to do and build, I am not sure I will restart. My plan is to do the main quest and any side quest I come upon on the way, and then explore explore explore and build build build after completing. This will be so epic.

I'll play as the default character at first, just for kicks.

My serious playthrough will be using an alternate start mod as well as muting my character (or probably headcanoning that her voice changed because reasons), because I want to bring my FO3/NV character to FO4.

Looks like it needs more work to make it happen.

I am trying to decide between playing through the story more or less as intended, vs completely ignoring all quests and just wandering around.

My characters are not me.

They are their own entity with a unique personality profile.

Their personality profile governs every action and choice they make in the game.

I play in 3rdP as I'm just along for the ride not unlike a spirit guide. Better yet... a demon guide.

For the past 4 years, I have and will always play these games (FO/TES) in a DID playstyle.

EDIT:

I will make many characters across many playthroughs only ending one if they...

  • finish telling me their story
  • I grow tired of the character
  • I am inspired to start another character form a backstory that come to mind
  • They die.

I have logged over 6K hrs in Skyrim alone with upwards of 50+ characters.

Only 10 have ever even met the Graybeards.

None have ever completed the MQ.

None have yet to advance in the CW questline at all.

There is still ~ 5% -10% of the gameworld left to be explored.

Play style, play style never changes.

First time is always a do everything available. Go everywhere, see everything. Usually a 150+ hour epic.

Subsequent playthroughs are where I change things up. D.I.D., melee/projectile/energy only. Good/evil. Veterans know the score.

As I'm still playing Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas regularly I think I will play the shiiit out of this one too.

Pip-boy edition ordered. Countdown running....

Just going to play through it to get a good feel for the story, probably just do the nice options for quests because thats how i play. Probably going to scrounge around and try and complete as much of the game as possible. Will probably be male unless i like the female voice acting better.

Second character will probably be an evil woman (to hear the voice acting) and just do the mirror of everything my other character did.

As for me personally I think I will start the game out as playing "myself" with my own name, make the choices I personally would do etc. And experiment and exploring a whole lot since it will be my first time of course. Experiment with the game and its systems and what is possible etc. I will most likely play as Dead is Dead though. I really love the feeling of danger, but just putting up the difficulty slider have always feelt so bad in previous Fallout games (and Elder Scolls games) since that only make everyone a bullet sponge, making combat feel very artificial and unreal when people can take 10 shotgun blasts to the head before dying.

After I die or grow tired I will probably try out a more specialised character when I have learned the games limitations a bit more, and go out in a totally different direction from last time to experience something new.

I think I will stick to DiD, but I like to keep some memento of a character and I really like the building feature so I think when he dies I will just retire him as a "ghost" at his house I have built. I can go around and look at what I managed to gather or do that playthrough but I can only stay around my house like he is bound there now.

As for other self inflicted rules I will probably also try to eat, drink and sleep etc even if there is no "hardcoe" mode.

Also I tend to not use fast travel if there is no logical way (like the carriers in Skyrim) or use the wait function.

At some point I will maybe also make a "complete 100%" character (not DiD obviously)

Or I will see, I don't know if I want to "100%" it because then some of the mystery might be gone when you never know you will see something new every time. I will at least take notes of bubble heads etc to be able to collect things like that later again since my DiD characters will probably not be around to ever complete a set even if I wanted to... I don't even know if 100% is even possible since there is no % in the game like in some other games, and some actions tend to shut off other.

I'm going to play as me as far as the avatar is concerned. I haven't done that since Oblivion.

My priority will be intelligence, because I just want to use that deathray they showed in the e3 trailer. It looks like you can create the weapon and keep it at your base.

Intelligence at 7 or 8. I would put strength fairly low, endurance and perception at decent levels (4 or 5) and try to get agility up to 6 just for Vats. Oh, and luck I would have at like 2 or 3. That's not really a strategy. It's just the role I want to play. Intelligence seems like it will be much more practical in this game compared to F3 and NV.

First play-through will be a character who follows the main story and sees the game with no mods.

My characters after that will use an alternate starting mod and hopefully a non-voiced protagonist mod.

Can't wait to start creating characters.

I plan on playing fallout 4 more intensivly than how I played fallout 3. I wantto explore everything, find every easter egg and find ever little collectable. Class wise I hope to play a very sneaky lockpicking hidden killer *hides face with my arm* But I do hope that they add in things like that to explore like other vaults or hidden passage ways beneath boston that goes along with the history of the location.

I'll probably focus on my favorite RPG character style I like to play, and play that way in the game and continue to do so unless something else I find seems more fun. I do this with every game. Always a stealth archer/sniper.

If I have a family, I know how I'm going to effectively always have food for them to eat. My trusty rifle provides me with sustenance.

Outside of stealing stuff i'm pretty nice and helpful.
