Game won't save or autosave, also always launches in window.

Hello!
I discovered that when I tried to save my game, it doesn't work. Auto save and the in game save command ACT like they're saving, but there's no load option, and no save file created in the files either. So whenever my character dies, I only can select New Game.

I tried a bunch of things that I found on the steam community (And yes, I do have the game on steam) from users having the same issue, but none of them have worked.

As I wrote on the Steam Community Forums "I've tried setting the files to not read only, "Taking Ownership" of the files, writing in my own save file in the documents/my games/fallout4 file, and reinstalling the game. I'm at my wits end."

The only thing I can think is that sometimes when I set a file to not be read only and hit apply, I go back into the properties and the read only box is checked again. And yes, my computer account is an administrator account.

I'm also having a problem regarding how the game launches only in windowed mode, even when windowed mode isn't checked.

Please help me as soon as you can, I'd really like to play the game! Thank you in advance!

On a side note, is the post supposed to have a white background like that?

No, its not. What ever you did, don't do that again :D

As for your issue, it sounds like there is no reason for the game to not be saving files. Are the save files even being created? Look in My Documents/My Games/Fallout 4 to see. Are there any Autosaves?

Have you tried running the EXE in a Compatibility Mode, like Windows 8 or Windows 7? You can do this with a right click on the EXE and choose Properties. You find the EXE where ever Steam placed the game in your library.

As for the Windowed Mode, I am not at my gaming machine, but that might be the best choice for performance, it is for some folks. I think there is a Borderless Window mode, but not sure. If not, the mod that removes the window border should be ready soon.

I've got this issue too, partly anyway. Saves seemed to work for first 55 minutes and was getting a quicksave notification on screen but when i went to load, the last one is the old 55 minute save file. No autosaves either. Very frustrating indeed.

Do you have any special characters in your windows user name? I've seen cases where games couldn't create a folder in the /My Documents/My Games folder if the username was unusual. Do you have a nonstandard path to your user folder or My Documents folder?

I checked, there are no save files in the folder.

Running the EXE in Windows 7 Compatability does not solve the issue.

Yes, I have a heart in my username, like ?. Should I make a new user account?

I had this issue and fixed it.

Basically I had a friend send me his Fallout4 folder (The one that was supposed to be in 'my games', but for whatever reason wasn't created.)

I then went into the fallout folder, ensuring that the permissions for all users were set to full control; and that pretty much fixed it for me. I also did it with the 'Saves' folder, but unsure if that actually mattered.

Either way, i'm playing the game now, and it's saving perfectly! Can load, too :-).

Might be a bit of a pain in the ass, but i think it's worth a shot.

I had a problem with saving and loading games. I checked my AV program. It was blocking the fallout 4 exe file. I changed the AV setting and now the game is properly saving and loading saved game files.
