I don't mind having degrading weapons, aslong as it isn't the way it was in FNV. You needed 3 copies of the same weapon at atleast 50% durability, just to get throught a mere handfull of quests. It degraded way to fast. If the degrade scale is lower, and less like you favorite weapon having to be repaired each 5-10 min, then i will be just fine with it.
Other than Power Armor Degradation and possibly general armor damage, there doesn't seem to be any weapon degradation, too our knowledge. I don't care if it's in personally, but I don't think it is, as I feel with the breaking down of gear, it would be way to easy to repair a gun in this game and thus make the endeavor meaningless. Thus I don't see it being in the game, and nothing I've seen or heard suggest that it will be. I always felt it was more of cute extra in the game, but at times it felt like I was limited by resources in new areas for preferred weapons. Fallout 4 could obviously change that issue, but by making it too easy to repair guns, where as finding a ton of Cloth and Leather to repair armor may not be as easy.
No weapon/armor degradation would be a huge negative in my opinion. Not deal breaking but very disappointing. Why is that an issue because it makes the game infinitely easier not having to worry about weapons/armor break. Unlike Skyrim where I was able to ignore it, this I won't because Fallout is technically about surviving in a post nuclear world, how do you survive or have a survival game if your weapons/armor don't break at all. One of my best memories of Witcher 3 is exiting a dungeon and then having to hoof it back to a fast travel point all the while my weapons are at 50% health and I have to worry about stuff breaking. You can't have that type of feeling in a game where stuff doesn't break and it leads to the more casualization of the series.
Will I still get Fallout 4 if this is a thing, sure, I can't wait for Fallout 4 but this is another dumbing down of the series by removing this feature. It's pretty disappointing if true.
I'm extremely wary. Frankly I would tolerate having no damage at all if it didn't mean rares become 'too good to use' due to the cost of repairing them all the time. The main problem I have is how little health everything has - I run a play-through wearing one of the mercenary armours (Merc Grunt, for example) and it only lasts a couple encounters before being so badly damaged that if I remove it, I have to walk around naked until I find a way to fix it again.
Seeing armour parts have health as low as 75 does not make me happy, since even delicate things were a couple hundred according to the GECK.
Have you considered, though: the E3 presentation also remarked about shooting off portions of people's armour. Perhaps the 'health' is the equivalent of limb health - whereas a limb gets crippled, the armour will be unequipped/dropped?
In which case that armour 'health' is either not related to repair, or is going to be doubly inconvenient.
i really, really hope it is in. the most memorable chapter of a recent fallout 3 character of mine was when i was exploring D.C. with busted gear and low ammo, leaving out gear degradation can only take away from the post apocalyptic setting
I think armor and weapons degradation was left out on purpose during the E3 videos that Bethesda Games Studios showed, because they wanted to show off and explain their new repair system later on, they only showed us Power Armor being repaired for a taste of what's to come.
When the pcgamer.com employees asked the questions, they actually asked a few questions about armor and weapons CND and said that both Pete Hines and Todd Howard will not talk about it yet. Or they gave very little details and said to wait to find out a bit later before, Fallout 4 releases for sale. So we might either get some details before QuakeCon 2015 is over or anywhere from August 2015 to October 2015 or Bethesda Games Studios might not announce it and leave it as a surprise for us to find it ourselves when Fallout 4 releases for sale.
This. It might be just for Power Armor, which we've already know. Other weapons/armor might not have the degradation, which I honestly hope they don't. Bethesda's repair systems has always been annoying.
The pcgamer.com employees who asked about a repair system asked about CND and not just for Power Armor they asked about all sorts of different ways repair can work for armor and weapons in Fallout 4 with this new crafting system and Pete Hines and Todd Howard said very little details or that they will not talk about it just yet.
That right there shows that there actually is a repair system in Fallout 4 not just for Power Armor, but for all armor and weapons.
I think armor and weapons will be repairable at the workbench and not in the middle of no where with 30 copies of the same armor or weapons. I also have a feeling armor and weapons will break slower than in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
I'm hoping for DT, not only DR like in Fallout 3. Obsidian made a much better game mechanics-wise, Bethesda would be stupid to ignore their work.
All I'm saying is, if Bethesda ignore the progress Obsidian made with New Vegas, I'll lose a lot of respect for them. Just admit that they did it better and use their ideas. I think it was 85% DR in VATS in FO3. Totally ridiculous.
I tend to avoid Forums for 99% of my life. The recent heatwave put me off gaming for a while and I came online to find and post a few views I had about upcoming games. I'll probably stop posting here within a week or two until FO4 comes out, then I'll return for bug reporting.
So, I missed the arguments, but I'm guessing some people didn't like DT? I felt it was more RPG-esque than DR. The concept of getting better armour that protects you from weaker attacks and gives you a fair chance against heavier odds. It functioned like Armour should imo. I use Gecko-Backed Reinforced Leather Armour in New Vegas anyway. It's multipurpose and saves on having to make too many preparations with my Armour. I'd sometimes use Gecko-Backed Reinforced Metal Armour too.
As for Fallout 3? Chinese Stealth Armour. It was just OP and perfectly complimented my stealthy predisposition. No reason to use anything else after getting that unless you wanted to be aggressive, and then I'd usually use Enclave Hellfire Armour and a Heavy Incinerator.
I just want to set the world on fire and watch it BURN!
That only proves power armor requires repair/maintenance and the occasional power core, it does NOT mean you have to maintain your own weapons and armor however.
Keep looking, champ.
Please just read the pcgamer.com article, there were some pcgamer.com employees who are or went to QuakeCon 2015 and asked quite a few questions about CND and the repair system in Fallout 4.
They even said their is a visual inspection of guns where you can inspect them if they are rusty, etc.
