Why the PC is not completely Predetermined.

I see a lot of people on here expressing their dislike of the PC being predetermined as Married, Straight, and has Child. To this I say so what? From what we saw of the opening sequence there is actually very little explained about your character.

Who he/she is, where they come from, who they were, what they want to be, what they think of the world around them. None of these things are decided for you. You want your guy to be a "bad ass" who would shoot someone in the face? GO FOR IT! Why couldnt they have been that person before the events of the trailer? What if they tried to clean up and live a "normal" life? You want them to be gay? Maybe they are and it's a secret from the spouse (happens a lot in real life) or maybe they dont even realize it because they were raised in such a way to suppress it? Maybe they were a good person before the vault and then Cryo Freezing ( if that's the case) gives you psychosis or just the rough nature of the wasteland changes you into someone of that nature?

Yes, it is a pain that if you have a "extreme" backstory of your character you're going to have to work around/with this opening but it's not that bad or hard to do. You're limiting your imagination by thinking this "KILLS" your sense of Role Playing.

Think of an hourglass with the neck (middle where sand funnels through) is the opening of the game. What comes of your character before and after are completely in your control.

Fallout has always had some amount of pre determined backstory. Almost everything is decided for you in fallout 3. New Vegas gives you some room for imagination for sure. But you're totally right, there's no issue with backstory in this game, especially if you look at past fallouts.

Totally agree, mate. You can still be whatever you want. I'm getting more and more positive about this presentation the more I watch it and read people's comments. You can go Mad Max and avenge your family. You can keep looking for them if you're a family man. You can become the raider you always wanted to be now that you got rid of the ball and chain. Do whatever you want, be whoever you want to be.

The pc isn't straight... noone is saying this. He could be bi. Or maybe he is secretly gay but get married, because the pre-war society don't like gays like in the 50s?

Agreed.

Some people will whine about anything. Especially the SJWs.

For those who have big issues with the family setting, look on the "bright" side; you probably loose them in the nuclear blast. :wavey:

In that sense, your character will start with a loss, not a family. And I figure most people, unfortunately, can relate to that. It could give the start quite an emotional edge.
