Hello! I've an issue, once I click play on the launcher it loads everything in, til the main menu of Fallout 4, then I click on New and it begins to load it in, however just before the loading finishes, my game crashes and I get the following error!

"display driver stopped responding and has recovered"

Any ideas? Does this mean my PC can't run Fallout?

Well, what is your video card? If it is not CPU based and a real video card, have you updated the drivers?

In particular, Nvidia drivers have to be updated, AMD can get buy with slightly older ones.

Sadly, I've a laptop which uses the Intel stuff as I got mine like a couple of years back (when I didn't know anything about graphic cards and stuff). My video card is Intel HD Graphics 4000, shocking, I know.

I have the EXACT same problem with a Lenovo Y40 gaming laptop. 2gigs graphics (AMD), all drivers up to date. Tried everything support told me to and then some, and still couldn't get past that load screen.

you have video drivers from your graphics chip rather than the modified version of those drivers that your laptop maker provides... I had a windows laptop that many times when windows did an update i had to run a utility from the laptop maker to restore their special modified version which was 6 months behind what the new one if we were lucky (from intel in my case for iris graphics chip.) was. the problem only impacted games of course.

Also, integrated graphics is going to be a tough issue overall. If you only have 8gb RAM then you don't have enough to fully share with system and GPU. Also, minimum requirements is 2GB RAM on graphics card. If your system cannot allocate that continuously to the graphics card and still have enough for the system, and running programs, and game, it will surely crash. Would be nice to see a spreadsheet of machines that people have with listing of cpu, gpu, ram, etc etc and who percentage of those systems that are running and not running the game. Be easier to target troubleshooting for sure!

Unfortunately, you are in a bad spot with that system. Your CPU doesn't meet the minimum requirements and the Intel HD 4000 isn't going to cut it for graphics. Any laptop, even gaming laptops that are above the minimum requirements seem to be experiencing issues right now. Of course, plenty of desktop users that exceed even the recommended configurations are experiencing issues. Right now, I would say you have three choices; buy a new machine, get a refund for the game if possible, or wait it out until the patches start rolling in. I know it's a tough call either way and wish I had better news. I've seen and played on systems that didn't meet the minimum requirements over the years. However, if I ran into issues, I couldn't expect any support for not meeting those mim requirements.

Maybe everyone will get lucky and just one big patch will fix a bulk of issues. I don't know what the issue is right now, but it appears to be, based on the crash reports I've seen, that it's a graphics issue. However, I think there is more to it than that. When navigating the pip boy and menus, I experience sound pops in game that are more like static than actual sound pops.

All that being said, I wish developers would realize they need to code consoles separately than PC's. There are so many issues with doing it together, including driver issues. Consoles are not programmed the same as PC's. It's as simple as that. It doesn't matter that they use the same cpu and gpu as some systems do. There are too many programmatic differences that make an actual difference in how coding should be done. It's too bad that devs companies have lost touch with the consumers. It used to be about passion for gaming and it turned all corporate. Bethesda has become too big for its britches, just like EA, Activision, etc.

Okay, I know that doesn't help on the issue. Stepping off my soapbox. Sorry I don't have better news.

Okay thank you for telling me! GTA V had issues with my PC, that it did the same as Fallout and kept crashing, then Rockstar made an update and it suddenly started to work, so I'm gonna wait for another week or 2 for another patch to come, I'm gonna try and see if it works on my Dad's PC (which is a lot better then mine at the current minute), if it doesn't work on his then it must something graphical because his is a lot more better then mine and fits the requirements for the game, if it works on his, then I might just refund and wait for it to work. Problem is, Bethesda could take awhile for these patches to come in to make it (hopefully) work on my Computer, as long as they see this (which they won't xD) and fix the patch to some how work on less advanced laptops (if you get me), then I would be really happy, I've been hyped for Fallout 4 since I saw the trailer in it's first week of release and I'm disappointed that after this long wait, I can't play it

I'm having the same problem but that message isnt coming up. i think it may be because of the graphics card

I don't know now, because I installed Fallout 3 today and it's doing the same thing on there

I've somehow fixed the issue
