Ending disappointment

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 9:31 am

I'd love for there to be a way to fix the ending of the game so it had ending slides and a voice over but, sadly, since you can continue playing, I'm honestly not sure how you'd even go about doing that.

But I really dislike this choice.

WHYYYYY, Bethesda, WHYYYY?

:-p

I thought FO3 had slides even after adding the DLC that extended the game? Couldn't it be done that way?

So let me get this straight:

Spoiler
Shaun's kidnapped in 2227, raised in the Institute for 60 years. He releases you from the Vault, not knowing whether or not you'd actually have the skills to survive and reach him, leads you to believe that you're looking for a ten year old boy, gives you Synth!Shaun and... expects you to be OK with all that?

Have I got this right? I mean,
Spoiler
why didn't he just order you to come to the Institute pronto and explain everything the first chance he had? Why the wild goose chase?

I know. If the game allowed, I would've shot him in the face.

Not to mention (no spoiler tags since we are in the spoiler forum); He, my son, states that he doesn't have any memories of his mother. But he was with me the same amount of time, probably less so, and he remembers details about me?

So yeah, I'd be pissed. For all the jerking around. And frankly, my char didn't even believe him. And then this whole "I want you to head the Institute" crap? What? Are you kidding? And then, of course, there's the synth that looks like my 10 year old boy.

All in all, I was dumbfounded by the ending. It left more questions then it should've. And no ending was a "good" ending. Because, if you tried to play the game as a decent guy, and in the end you are forced to kill everything - not good.

In my ending, I sided with the Institute. And close to the end, dear old son tell me I have to kill the RR. Even know he knows they are friends of mine. I say "No". He orders me too and leaves. Game stops and waits for me to do it.

Now my only choice is to betray him. Which is exactly what i will do.

This game badly needs a ME like ending choice - you know the one where Shepard tells the Repears to [censored] off. We need that same ending here.

You scared me there for a minute. I thought you were going to say that while we are talking to our young 'son' he asks us what color we want the final explosion to be.

I think you actually CAN shoot him in the face, kill him even.

And to be fair to Shaun, he has more intel on you because spent all that time running around the Commonwealth doing all your things. All he had for his mother was that she was shot in Vault 111 as they were taking him. Seems quite cold of him to address her as "unnecessary collateral damage", though. I'm like, "Dude, that was your MOTHER!"

He explains that he wanted to see if the Commonwealth would change you and what it would make you into.

Well he must've been pushing all his chips in by betting his dear ol' daddy/mommy, what with their pre-War experiences, would be able to survive the hostile Wasteland. :P What would have happened had we died? :P

He completely expected you to die. He even mentions that he's surprised you survived for so long.

Yeah, Shaun is all Team Institute.

You're basically a guy he has a biological connection to.

A curiosity notable for the fact you're famous.

Not really because he feels anything for you.

No matter what, you lost your son long ago.

This topic is endlessly facinating to me. Reading these threads is a collective moral wrestling before final impressions have been cemented. You can see some folks defending their in game actions with passion, sometimes using reasoning that is a little weak at times. I'm still torn but I think I will ultimately support my son simply because he is my son. What else is left in that crazy world anyway?

In my case, the Sole Survivor's choice is very good because he romanced two companions.

The Wasteland is his home.

"Do I support the horror my son has become or do I support the new family I've made?"

In a very real way, it's kind of suicidally horrific to discover not only did the Institute kill your wife but they did worse to your son.

They made him like they are.
