Good base of operations(aka settlment)

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:41 am

Hey everyone did someone mng to find a nice building spot jet, i am looking for something with decent buildings there already(something similar to Castle can be much smaller ofcourse just want it less destroyed since repair on existing structures is non existant to minimal). So basicly am looking to make a base for me and few select companions(armory, main house can be more than that but wud need at least 2 preexisitng buildings in decent condition) that wont look like a shacktown so if anyone has any ideas on nice locations do suggest:)

I used Starlite Drive-In. The tall skinny building is ideal for a fortified base of operations for me. I built out from the stairway one floor panel then up three stories using the existing room next to the stairs as a sleeping room, storage. I put my work centers around the first and second floors, and my power armor I built a stairway up from the roof then floored it out with walls and roof for power armor rack and storage. Then used turrets, lights, etc, to guard the one doorway I made to the area. I put a box in front of the workshop building door with four turrets on the roof of it. The third building I left alone.

Nice though i was looking to do minimal actual contruction since everything you construct looks like a shack:)

But after some extended searching for possibile spot i did find Covenant which is perfect for my purpose, 4 small repaired prexisting houses, fully walled with proper conrete walls with barbed wire and turret placment spots on top you do actualy have to get rid of the existing population if you want to use it as personal/companion base instead of normal settlement(the existing population is involved in nasty experiment that include torture of synths and humans anyway so i didnt fell any remorse doing the quest in way that gets em all killed). But yeah so far for my original purposes by far the best possibile location i have found so far.

Man i just wish you cud use repair on existing buildings in other settlements to fix em up and have some aditional building options like concrete walls and concrete military bunker style structures since all of that exists in the game you are just unable to build stuff like that despite actualy having all the necesary materials that wud be needed in such construction.

Red Rocket is my favourite. I have my settlers sleeping on the roof and farming in between the gas pumps, inside is crafting station and storage. It looks pretty [censored]in awesome

I think the lighthouse is pretty sweet, there's one house with a hole in the roof that allows you to build above or next to it, and a dock has a boat that I believe you can put some stuff on.

Also with it being on a beach you only need to build a wall round half of it, but if you head there bring a hazmat suit as thee are some tough radiation wielding enemies that you'll need a high rad resistance to fight.

My main settlement was Red Rocket until I found Nordhagen Beach. Building over the water with the entrance being at water's edge. First/second level is defense facing towards the beach: 2 missile turrets, 2 heavy laser turrets, a spotlight, and a guard with a cryolater. Next two levels are settler quarters, with crafting and 4 PA stations above that. My 4 large generators and two windmill towers are up powering everything along with my bobblehead shrine at the pinnacle. Just trying to make a lightbox sign now (see separate thread lol). My favorite so far, and it's all completely custom using no existing structures

A few good points.

Sanctuary is good, it's ridiculously large, and gives you plenty of building room.
Goodsprings Nursery (or something like that), It's in the wild, and has a few locations that are pretty hot in the quest log. Not to mention it doesn't hurt to build artillery there. Building is a pain because the ground is not at all flat, and is very cramped. You'll find yourself building a second level.
Hangman's Alley. Oh my god, this is a must. Boston is such a freakin cluster ******, that having this here as a safe ground is pretty much the smartest move you could make as a player. It's tiny. But easy to defend. It's built inside of an ally, and at most you only need five settlers in it. It's location next to diamond city makes it pretty easy to restock.
Boston Airport. Can't build any crops here, but if you can put some settlers in this area, you'll learn that this is probably the easiest to access base on the mid east.
