Relationship setup adds diversity as well as difficulties.

I did post earlier raising if your character could have homosixual relations... and I still think that allowing for your character to be either bisixual or a closeted homosixual adds depth and diversity.

However I also wanted to raise that by starting as one member of a heterosixual couple with children, the game allows two groups to be represented which aren't normally represented as PC in games... that is a parent and someone in a relationship. Generally we are told that parents can't be action heroes... that caring for a minor is somehow antithetical to trying to save the world... the odd thing is that a child is often a motivator for the PC but it is usually a pseudo parenting relationship i.e. Ciri, Ellie, Clementine, Emily Kadwin, the "star child" but you rarely are actually a direct parent with with parental responsibilities... sure there was Sam Fisher but he was basically off saving the world and barely had time for his daughter till she was gone. As a parent with a 2 year old it is cool to see that you can be an action hero AND a parent... that life doesn't end with parenting. This sort of brings us back to one of Fallouts main inspirations "Mad Max."

Also most games have you start as single, this means that in so far as games do show relationships it is in the new romantic phase rather than having a long term trusted partner... showing this phase is harder to do in a game, particularly as it means lumping you in a relationship you had no choice over... but it allows the writers to tell a story and explore what you can do in a relationship that is already a bit down the track.

This extra credit shows some of the difficulties in showing the middle of a relationship https://www.youtube....?v=wyWiGL3Ampg?/a>

Thinking about our character's story and personality isn't fun? That's a new one on me...

I think he meant the fact that we literly have at least three threads about the exact same issue.

You aren't an action hero AND a parent. You're a parent, go to sleep for 200 years, then you become an action hero. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that losing a child makes you stop being a parent (this never really ends), but you don't juggle these two responsibilities in Fallout 4 as far as we're aware at this stage. You spouse and child are gone. Maybe you'll see them again at some point, but we don't know this yet.

I disagree with the statement that forcing our character into a straight marriage adds diversity. It doesn't seem to in this case, anyway. But I reserve final judgement for after the game is released.

I agree with this. They already turned Fallout into the sims and gave us the option to play house. I think they should just drop the entire RPG thing in the games and make them full on simulators. They won't even need to worry about anything but their strong suits at that point.
