Protagonist as a Mother

It probably would be best to skip the nvde beach this year anyway. By next year you should have a plasma caster to deal with the mirelurks.

Well im a guy, go figures, but often i find playing a male protag to just be boring. Especialy games like this i tend to find playing a female character that kicks ass to be far more fun then the next itteration of so so male swarchenegger look alike. Still i do have to say that opposed to previous fallout games, and also skyrim, i am looking forward more to this game in the sense as i might try playing a male protag sometime. For me the whole having a family history does give me more fun at the game opposed to the sometimes less interestin FNV being a courier/loner type protag.

I don't really like being obligated being a parent.

Not game-breaking, but worth mentioning that not everyone wanted to be locked in that position

I like being girl characters but I feel like the whole "you had a kid" would hurt my role-play. Moms tend to be more protective and after losing an infant it can send them into massive amounts of depression which I don't feel like it would suit my character due to most of my characters being a "how about no" when it comes to kids and I don't want her to seem heartless and go "Oh well, she is dead now time to move on with my life" because screw that heartless bullcrap.

That entirely depends on the person, same as fathers. To say that all mothers will behave a certain way and all fathers could casually brush aside the loss of their own child is rather asinine in itself.

Gaming needs more Mother Protagonists.

If demons run when a good man goes to war, then all of hell flee's when a Mother is on the warpath.

Yes, losing an infant would be bad, but on top of that the world as you knew it has been completely destroyed. All gone, BOOOOOOOM. Realistically you would be in survival mode operating on instinct. Regardless of what race or six you are, your entire world is gone. No one could just brush that off.

Gaming needs more female protagonists in general.

That is true, I'm not saying all moms are like that but given how I roll my characters I almost always roll them in a way where they're not heartless enough to hurt or say "oh well" if a child dies.

As for the father thing I should've clarified that I didn't mean that I just thing a mother will end up caring more since the child came from them, they gave birth to the child which sometimes leads to a stronger emotional relationships. Fathers can have that connection too but the end result really is for most fathers or mothers they would think "Oh god, my baby is dead" and enter into a massive depression that could be really dangerous to have during an apocalypse.

This is my problem, my characters would enter into that kind of depression and it'd be hard to role-play that right at the start.

Alien Isolation Crew Expendable, if you play as Ripley/Sole Survivor.

Stretching a bit, I know. But her being the mother of Amanda is part of the plot.

Okay I see what you mean.

Well, from what I gather you won't be seeing the baby's dead body or anything, and dialogue with the robot implies the baby and spouse are alive, or at least the protagonist wants to think they're alive.

So it's more a separation than outright loss.

To be fair that robot could have a few bolts lose and files lost. But yea that's a possibility.

No but seriously playing as a mother whose baby got killed gotta add at least some emotional weight, especially now that we have a voiced PC. Right?

Well then you'd be stuck spending 9 months in the game pregnant, I don't think that'd be fun for a lot of people xD

From reading this thread and the others like it on other forums, I guess I'm the only person who was thinking about if it would be possible to do a Mom Lone Wolf with Cub type tearing around the wastelands with a customized baby carriage with missle launchers and bladed wheels.

http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/ . . . Honestly this should be a starting option!

But I kind of suspect that Bethesda will drop the ball on it unless they hired some good writers this time given what we think happend.
