Issues with pre-loading?

We know you’re ready for Fallout 4 on November 10th, and for those that digitally pre-ordered on Xbox One, we want to make sure you’re ready to jump in right away. If you’ve digitally pre-ordered the game on Xbox One on or before 10/27 and are NOT using Instant On power mode, you may still have an incorrect “stub file” for the title, which is simply a placeholder file. Players that have this particular version of the stub file will be required to delete it, and reinstall the title.

If you’ve pre-ordered on or after 10/27, you should be ready to download the necessary updates as they become available. Once these updates have been installed, you’ll then be able to play Fallout 4.

To do so, follow the process below:

  • Navigate to My Games & Apps.
  • Find the title's tile in Games.
  • With the tile highlighted, press the [Menu] button on your controller.
  • Select Manage Game.
  • In the Manage Game screen, select the storage device the game is currently installed to.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • Once the game has uninstalled, return to My Games & Apps.
  • Scroll right to the "Ready to Install" section under Games.
  • Highlight the title's tile.
  • Press [A] to select.
  • Choose Install.

For information on reinstalling games on the Xbox One, head https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/games/install-games.

If you have additional questions about the game, we encourage you to share them here in our forums. Welcome Home.

How do I connect the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy app to my game?

If you wish to make use of the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy app, you must first enable it in game.

To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the game.
  2. Navigate to Settings, then Gameplay.
  3. Switch the “Pip-Boy App Enabled” option to On.
  4. Exit and restart the game.

Note: The above process will not be complete unless the game is restarted and there is an active Wi-Fi network available. In addition, if you wish to turn the option off, you must also restart the game to complete the process.

Once enabled in game, the Pip-Boy app will recognize the console or PC by IP address as part of a first-time setup process.

You can connect your app to your game manually by opening the app and selecting Options, then Connection Setup. You will be able to select which machine by IP you would like to connect your app to.

If you are unsure what your platform’s IP address is, you can follow the relevant process below:

  1. In the console’s home screen, push the [Menu] button.
  2. Select Settings, then select Network.
  3. Select Advanced settings, then IP settings.

You will be able to view your machine’s IP address under “IP Address” on the right.

Why do I get a “Connection Status: Game Busy” error messaging when trying to connect my Pip-Boy app to my game?

This error message occurs when you try to connect your Pip-Boy app to a game that already has an app connected. You will need to ensure the first app and device is disconnected before connecting your own.

Game-related FAQs (as new updates come in, we'll post here and at http://help.bethesda.net)

The Lost Patrol – I'm directed to return to Paladin Danse to complete this quest but I cannot talk to him about it!

This can occur if the player starts "The Lost Patrol" and then continues through some other quests before completing it. After the "Reunions" quest, the player will trigger an event where the Prydwen flies overhead. At this point, the player needs to complete "Shadow of Steel" and "Tour of Duty" before they will have the opportunity to complete "The Lost Patrol" again, as Paladin Danse will no longer speak to the player about it. After completing "Tour of Duty", Paladin Danse may mention to the player that any new information they get regarding "The Lost Patrol" will need to be given to Captain Kells on the Prydwen, this dialogue is easy to miss however and the player may easily skip over it. Either way, once "Tour of Duty" has been completed, the player can complete "The Lost Patrol" by speaking with Captain Kells instead of Paladin Danse.
