Synth in Sanctuary

Dropped by my home base of Sanctuary last night in between some questing just to drop off some loot and while I was doing so I heard a fire fight happening right out side so of coarse I ran to check out the commotion. To my surprise I found 5 of my settlers + my turrets ganging up on 1 of my other settlers!!! They killed him with ease. I was baffled to say the least...then I looted the corpse. He had a institute laser pistol and some item ,that I cant recall at this time, that had the word synth written on it. Guess my crew had a zero tolerance policy. I freaking love this game!
Anyone else here run into a similar situation?

Nope, didnt know Synth could infiltrate our Settlements. Now I need to beef up my security detail even more

He held his watch post for at least a in game week without blowing his cover. I'm just curious how they sniffed him out. I had even equipped him in full guard gear and weapons before hand so I know those items were not in his inventory to begin with.

You probably equipped the human version, then the synth replaced him.

So far on my play through I've been Synth friendly as long as they are non institute. When I first walked up on the fire fight I went strait into VATS. All of my settlers including the Snyth(didn't know he was until I looted him) had green names over there heads. All friendly so I just watched as they killed him cause I truly had no clue what to do at that moment.

If synths are killing people to take their place, it isn't racism, it's simple self preservation that comes into play. I had an encounter where a guy was holding a shotgun on an exact duplicate of himself. I tried to use persuasion to resolve the issue, but failed the check, so... I told the guy with the gun not to shoot and he turned aggressive. I killed him after he attacked me, immediately checked the corpse and when I didn't find a synth component, I shot the other guy too.

The second one DID have the synth component...

I'd say synths ain't no friends of mine, eh?

Obviously you have yet to meet the runaway synths that just want to live and let be. Not ALL synths are trying to replace people. I'm talking specifically about the runaway ones. Surely it's not too much of a stretch to think there's good reason to have them in settlements if you want them considering they get abused everywhere else. 10 on 1 with the only reason being "Because synth" in your own settlement that YOU should be making the rules for hardly seems right.

My bigger question though is "Can you have friendly synths in settlements". Not just about "this" synth. And with the railroad faction there's good reason for it. "Equal rights for synths as long as they don't spy on us" and all that.

I seem to recall a runaway "good guy" synth in FO3...

The problem is that there is no way to tell what the synth's real motivations are. With my previous character, I'd freed a particular individual who may or may not have been a synth. a day or so later I was heading home through concord when out of the blue I was attacked by synths even though I had done nothing to provoke such an attack.

When I consider it, I don't believe I'll be waiting for them to shoot me in the head again before I decide I don't like them.

I haven't seen that happen, but I have seen one of my settlements being attacked by a group of gen 1 synths. .... which was weird because I was friendly with the institute at the time... like, I went there and they were green for me, but my settlers were fighting them. I just moved a bunch of turrets in front of them to take them out.

Really good one 'father'.... I think the Institute needs some new PR people... they want me to join, yet send armies to kill my guys? Thanks a lot. You're really doing a good job selling it.

Ahem strange logic here, theres absolutly no way of telling what anyones real intentions are, by your logic you should def exterminate all the humans as well since they do semm to attack your char a lot for no good reason:)

(i mean you saved some synth, nice of you but what now every synth in the universe knows you saved one of them and cares about it, it same as with humans, ghouls or whatver you save plenty of them but still get contantly atacked by other members of their species)

My point being same as with anything else you have good and bad ones and you cant project actions of some on everybody otherwise you wud have to exterminate everything

No, you don't have to exterminate everything. You aim at a human in VATs, and the tag says "Raider" do you shoot or wait? What if it says Scavenger or Settler? In RL there aren't any such tags of course, but essentially it won't take you long to figure out who to trust and who not to. In the game it's different with synths because there is no immediate way to tell anything, so the default is "don't trust them". In RL my default is pretty much the same, come to think of it...

I kind of think of synths in the same way I think of rattlesnakes in the countryside where I live. They leave me alone, I usually leave them alone. I don't wait for them to bite me though. All they have to do is shake their tail and I got a new hatband or a belt...

Had that same one and the guy that wasnt holding the gun was the Synth. I convinced the guy to drop the gun and the Synth attacked us both
