Should there be an option to make companions killable?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:53 am

The title says it all. Should we have a choice to toggle companion immortality on or off? Sometimes I like my companions to be immortal, but often times I'll allow them to die for story-reasons. Why not give the player the choice by making it a simple option you can turn on or off?

No reason not to. If its in the game already, great. If not, it'll be modded in quick enough that it won't matter anyways.

Voted yes, because I'm all for choice. Still, it's not a big issue with me because I tend to prefer essential companions anyway because of my habit of using mods to significantly increase the difficulty and number of enemies in my game.

I see the question was pretty easy to answer, but do you guys think Bethesda WILL add an option? Maybe I'll add that to the poll.

Yes, there should be a toggle button in the options menu that has certain characters essential or not. Put up a warning that it could break your game with it off, I personally want choices and don't want more Shrapnels who I couldn't kill in Fallout 3. New Vegas did it right, don't see why Fallout 4 can't replicate that.

I guess it isn't too hard to reload whenever the companion walks into outgoing fire

I'd say that vote is unanimous.

Hope there is a hardcoe mode.

Absolutely, there should be the option.

Will they implement it? I'm going to go out on a limb and say, yes. Although I won't be holding my breath while I'm out there.

they got to have this option because your dog would keep getting killed unless they bring back the puppy perk but then that makes me think that if you need a new human companion then you just build an android or android dog

I want my companions to die. At least, some of them, so then I can imagine the fallout ( :shifty: ) is the reason for my character's alcoholism.

If followers are essential that means they are integral to the storyline of the game, so if they get killed your playthrough would be screwed.

fallout new vegas had npcs that were integral to the storyline of the game and the player could still kill them and progress the story. this is just lazy railroading on bethesdas part.

Why would anyone say no to more options that allow players to have the game play the way they want it to? Even more so ones that can be toggled. There are absolutely no negative effects to it.

Now, will Bethesda do it? I doubt it.

Because some people are so determined to stay hyped that they refuse to acknowledge a single improvement that can be made to the game. No matter what Bethesda does, people will defend it simply because they don't want to admit the thing they're excited for may have some problems.

I am fine with a toggle option, though if this is going to be like FO3 and Oblivion where the enemies scale up but NPCs and Companions don't I'll be leaving it on so i don't have to reload everytime a Broken Steel bullet sponge like the Albino Radscorpion or Reaver Ghoul slaughters them.

They can probably die if they are not in companion mode. Like in FNV, they only get knocked down when they are your companion. If you dismiss them, you can kill them
