Rp in Power Armor for Long Journeys Impossible?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 8:04 am

I notice in the game play video that power armor is significantly slower and has extra layer of bulk to it. While I have no problem with it since it seems to be appropriate lore wise, but I can't help and wonder the impact of it on the player ability to journey if we're moving at such a slow speed even with jet packs. Is there any power armor in lore that fixed the agility issue? The only one I can think of is the T-51 series but I think Bethesda revamp it into heavier set.

I expect you would only be using PA for specific missions rather than general wandering/scouting since its probably harder to repair and keep in good condition for lack of parts.

Personally I'd expect to scout out a area, return to base and then fast travel (hopefully via vertibird) in my PA unless you were in known Deathclaw territory in which case I'd be using it to travel in as well. :D

Hmmm... Maybe this is an explanation as to why no one in the Capitol Wasteland Brotherhood had T-51Bs?

Anyhoo... I surmise you will be able to carry spare fusion cells for power armor, and it may be possible to get more efficient power systems for power armor. Power armor fusion cells might even be a good money sink.

I like that power armor might not be viable to wear in every instance of the game. If they make it appropriately useful when worn, then this is an excellent way to balance it so that we don't have the option to abuse it and never travel in anything else.

The making of power armor into something that's very situational is probably my favorite thing I've seen of this game so far.

It seems to me that power armor is going to be treated as an actual vehicle in this game as opposed to a simple suit. That probably means that it will have limited use through either plot-based reasons or, more likely, through repair and fuel limitations. I really like this idea. It allows the power armor to be badass and at the same time not too common to use that it gets boring.

Personally I like the fact its basically a situational vehicle, not the end all end game armour to get, makes it feel more special.

You can customise your armour so I'm guessing at least you can fast travel with it back to you base (the garage for example) where it seems like you can hook it up for when you are not using it.

Indeed, it's interesting if it functions differently from just being the top tier of heavy armour.

I don't want power armor to become a special vehicle that you can't wear all the time. That goes against every past game lore-wise. Power armor is supposed to be the pinnacle of personal defense, not a mech suit to be used sparingly. The army threw a nuclear reactor in them for a reason. They're supposed to be used long term.

I thought about you when they showed the footage of him climbing into a suit. Couldn't have been more than a week or so before that I saw your last post suggesting they do this exact thing.

As a PC user i just used mods for armour in FO3 and FONV and never used power armour, So i really have no opinion of which is better as i doubt i will use it much.

PA in F1 felt special, very special. It was so cool the first time I got one. APA did give me almost the same feeling in F2. But in F3 it felt no different than steel armor, to me. I don't want something that is too easy to get and use, that I can just run around in forever. But gives me superior protection. So with that said, I'm guessing you will be able to walk around in it for longer periods of time. But the point will be to have an edge (to say the least) in combat specifically.

I wouldn't mind difficulty in obtaining power armor at all. It's changing the very nature of Power armor that steams my beans. If you want some kind of mech suit, go ahead and build a mech suit. Just don't use retcon to turn power armor into something it's not. Power armor is the pinnacle of personal defense technology, and should not be treated like a gimmicky powerup.

I am guessing that there will be regular power armor, and perhaps what we see in the demo is a special use power armor, to be used with the quest what was shown.

We see pictures of NPC's/Enemies in PA, plus all of the customization stuff back at the garage.
I can't see us not being able to loot PA from enemies, so aside from PA training, I don't see what would keep us from wearing it.

Jet pack, PA, though? I am hoping that it is just for that mission, as to not over power the stuff.

The amount of force probably needed to defeat an enemy in power armor means we'd be recovering scrap, not a working suit. We might recover parts, but the suit as a whole would probably be a loss. I imagine that power core would be on the top of the salvage list, though. ;)

I hope that we can still use them as long as we want them to if we can keep it working with spare parts and stuff(fuel shouldn't be an issue). They would balance high armor through slow speed and to only be able to get in and out at certain spots.

Well, there's different models of power armor. The one showed in the teaser looked like really heavy power armor specifically for a heavy assaults for targets like bases where you were expecting to take a lot of damage. I don't think that would be practical for hanging out on your homestead tending to your brahmin or long distance travel, but who knows, maybe you will be able to wear it everywhere.

That's certainly a possibility, and makes some sense, to boot. I've always thought it strange you could decimate an enemy and then wear their armor with holes all in it.
Though, I don't see that keeping us from wearing PA, referenced by the PA customization.
So, while it may be we can't immediately don the PA of a fallen foe, we can still wear it ultimately, I think.

Mh I'm torn; in F1 I used PA mostly to be able to carry more stuff (because of the str increase ); If you cannot wander while wearing a PA then it quite defeats the point. Still I'm very hyped by the new PA, it reminded me of an old cartoon I used to watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7dm5Gx8xUo

I didn't really see any difference between wearing power armor, and not wearing power armor in the gameplay video outside of the PA having a unique interface. I didn't notice the player running any slower than he ran without it - the game's running speed looks pretty slow in general.

Power armor looks the same as it's always been as far as I can tell. It just seems to have the added option for customization, and apparently mods like jetpacks.

Think of PA as a different feature now than an armor set. If you look at the trailers they show an insane amount customization, model varients, emblems, paint, and decals. Why would they do this if limited use throughout the game? Think of it like energy weapons now, very limited availability and use early game. If you get an energy weapon early its probably a pistol with limited ammo, later on in the game they are put on par with standard weaponry. Now take power armor, we might get it early, but it requires power and repairs. Limited use early on but however as the game goes on with more money, vendors, skills and perks it probably becomes just another feature in your arsenal.

Dont forget too that they added different stats so now power armor is a subset of armor. You can make a light weight, low damage resistance armor vs heavy slow and powerful armor.

Make it expensive to maintain or whatever but let me use it all the time if I'm willing to pour the necessary resources on it. I'd absolutely loathe it to be something like "event-only".
