As I'm running across the landscape on some Godsforsaken quest for the Minutemen, I hear somebody calling for help out by the Rotten Landfill.

Took me a minute to find them, but, there, under an overpass is a dude with his precise twin holding a shotgun on him.

They both claimed they were the "real" person and the both claimed the other was a "synth".

As I am sure you all are aware, there really isn't any way to win in these situations. Either I agree with the guy with the gun that he should murder the other one, walk away as if I don't care or tell him I'm not going to let him get away with murder (I failed the speech challenge - and me with a 9 charisma!).

Needless to say, he starts shooting at me so Dogmeat and I have to kill him. When I looted his body, I figured out that he was the human and that the one walking away was the synth. I was so pissed I Molatoved him to oblivion and looted his body too.

Don't like being fooled and now I hold a grudge against synths.

Amazing what this game will throw at you.

Anybody else have any odd stories to tell of things encountered?

I had that same encounter and failed the persuasion but the synths response just felt off so I knew it was him...told the gun guy to shoot that thing.

I had that same encounter, though, and I wasn't really sure who was who. We ended up killing the guy with the gun and let the other walk away. Don't know how to tell which is which.

Loot bodies and see if they have a synth component or not. Interesting to experiment and find out just how many people are synths in disguise

Oops, didn't find one of those, so I guess I nailed the human =/

I mercifully was attacked by super mutants during that exchange and didn't have to make a decision. The guy with the gun terminated the synth, then he and I moved onto killing super mutants together. Went back after the dust had settled and found the synth part on the dupe.

I killed them both to be safe.

I managed to talk the one with the shotgun down which then let them both duel each other like men.

As I recall, since I was able to persuade them in conversation, the real synth was the one with the gun to his head. And as I stepped back to watch them fight, he was the one who ended up being killed.

I'm proud to say that I was never tricked. The synths don't behave like the real person would if an unknown twin showed up claiming to be them and pulled a gun on them
