Playing US version in Japan

Hi guys,

So I'm pretty psyched for the PC version of Fallout 4, but I know the Japanese version will be censored as hell, due to the subject matter.

I would like to get a US version shipped to here, which I assume would be easy enough. I just want to know if I would be able to install it and make it work correctly on Steam. (English and everything).

I suppose a workaround would be if someone made a mod that removed the Japanese censorship, but I don't know if Fallout 4 will have full mod support, and I imagine I'd have to wait a bit for it to be made.

Would anyone know if I'll be able to play the US version in Japan?

Because of the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasake, I recall that numerous references to nuclear terminology were glossed over in previous titles.

In Fallout 3's Japanese version, the Fat Man was called a Nuka Launcher. You also didn't have the option of blowing up Megaton and Mr. Burke didn't exist. (Although I can look past that because there was absolutely no logical reason for you to blow up Megaton, story-wise or benefit-wise.)

I totally get why they would do it, but it kinda dilutes the lore for me.

They didn't really censor anything in the Japanese version of FONV, so claiming FO4 will be "censored to hell" is pretty extreme. Changing the name of the mini-nuke launcher and taking out the option to detonate the nuke in Megaton are very minor changes to show respect, especially since Bethesda is an American company, after all. Australia has far more issues with mature content in a game like FO than Japan does.

In any event, you should probably be able to get FO4 US version through various online vendors or perhaps even digitally via Steam.

By the way, for anyone interested, a lot of what Japan does today for "censorship" is because of the Occupation by Western Allies after WWII, especially American forces, and the need for the Japanese to adopt American standards of propriety, at least publicly. Historically, Japan doesn't have a problem with various subjects that America does (e.g., nudity, sixuality, etc.). Public image and social harmony are top priorities in Japanese culture, so public presentation versus true nature/reality is often quite different.
