Paladin Danse Worst Companion

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 3:17 pm

Paladin Danse was my favourite and most used follower apart from Curie and Strong. He is a great bloke and I think through the experience in the campaign, he is the reason I decided to join the Brotherhood in the end. But once you side with the Brotherhood and have finished the main quest line he really becomes a useless companion. I mean he gets X01 Power Armor which is really cool. But if you're just wandering Boston and a Vertibird flys over you and spots you with him as a companion you will be shot down on site, or if you just casually walk past Brotherhood of Steel soldiers. So pretty much if you are caught wandering with him you will be shot down and be classified as a threat for having him as a companion. There was this one occasion, where I had him walking around Sanctuary Hills for Safe Guard Protection and a Vertibird flew over and laid waste to him and all my settlers it was so frustrating. I just want to be able to have him as a companion or at least have him at one of my settlements instead of having him in a cave for the rest of his days being useless when he has X01 Power Armor equipped that never breaks. I mean he is a unique companion, but yeah.. After the Brotherhood of Steel laid waste to him and my settlers, I decided to make this post. Hopefully if Bethesda ever decides to start releasing patches updates etc they will fix this. Anyways let me know if any of you have also had this issue or what you think about this, lol.

Im confused. It sounds like you pissed off the Brotherhood and doesn't have anything to do with Danse. I havn't completed the brotherhood quest line so please no detailed spoilers.

This just plain belongs in the spoiler section. I'd leave the thread now if you don't want spoilers.

Danse is a tool. I so very badly want to blow his head off. How you could possibly have that guy around as a follower I cannot imagine.

Trust me I have tried countless times. I have gone back to the checkpoint before hand and have gone to the brother hood of steel base without Danse, nothing happens. I take him with me I get gatling laserd. If I don't bring him they don't harm me, but if I bring him along they all turn on me. (No Spoilers) But I think it has something to do with the Brotherhood of Steel storyline if you have sided with them, you'll know what I am talking about. But still it's pretty stupid if they are just going to attack you on sight if you're with him. I mean he is a follower and he is pretty much useless if you're going to be shot down by Soldiers in Power Armor and get bombs dropped on you/Mini-gunned from a Vertibird and trust me Vertibirds and Brotherhood of Steel soldiers are everywhere you can't avoid them.

He is a synth spy, he wants to foil your plans, of course he is the worst on purpose, he is the best at making you fail.

Sounds like a bug maybe?

I've seen something remotely similar to this: I had a quest from a random settler in Sanctuary to go clear some place. I went and did it and it says to Tell the Settlers at Sanctuary of your success, but everyone I talk to I just get the "I want to trade some things."

This won't be patched, because its part of the story. And yes, this should really be posted in the spoiler section. You may have already spoiled this for some people by posting here.

Spoiler
The BoS becomes hostile to Danse because they find out he's a synth. Hell, they just straight up want to kill him, and it takes multiple difficult speech checks to convince Elder Maxson otherwise. After that, Maxson says that if any soldiers see you with Danse, they will consider both of you hostile. You can simply not use him if you don't want to be attacked by your soldiers.

If you want this "fixed" you will have to wait for a mod.

Maybe it is a bug I am not sure, I don't believe it is though. I will try again tomorrow and see what happens, if you guys are on the Brotherhood of Steel side maybe test it from your end and see if you get the same outcome as me. But as I said before I am 99.9% sure it isn't a bug, but I could be wrong.

Dude it's not a bug at all. What did you do, not follow the story at all? How did you not know, I mean you had to convince the elder to let Danse live, and then the Elder specifically tells you what will happen if you are spotted with him. I'm just confused into how you think this is a bug.

No duh, I went through that same storyline twice. But I thought he was referring to the Brotherhood of Steel main bases, not just out in the open where they attack him and your settlers. Did Elder Maxson SPECIFICALLY say they will kill an entire settlement if Danse just happens to be there? No I don't believe they mentioned anything about killing civilians. Nor did he say he would kill ME if I were to be with him.

I actually like how the gameplay is integrated with the story here, it doesn't happen often.

That said, I wish Danse didn't dump you if you sided against the BoS after his storyline, but I understand why that happens too, and it fits his character.

But if you think about it, I am pretty sure every faction gets 1 follower depending who you side with. I know the Institute does, not sure about the Railroad. But if you side with any of them they don't kill you if you're with that companion. So that just renders Danse absolutely useless as the Brotherhood side companion if you get my drift.

True that, oh well.. He would have made a decent companion with his indestructible power armor and all. Guess I'll stick with sweet Curie. <3

Elder Maxson specifically states that you will be considered hostile if ANY soldier of the BoS sees you with him. As for the settlers, when an ally gets attacked the AI immediately turns hostile towards the attacker. In other words, the Vertibird attacked Danse, and since he is an ally with your settlers, your settlers immediately stood in his defense and returned fire at the Vertibird. That is what got them annihilated. I don't blame them. If I was a settler and a random BoS Vertibird started firing on someone in the settlement I lived in, I would return fire too, thinking we were all under attack.

I know I just find it upsetting that he has to now stay in that Military Bunker for the rest of his life, when he is such a decent and OP companion and trust me I hate getting on the Brother of Steels bad side cause they are honestly not someone you want to be enemies with since they just run around in power armor while firing their gatling lasers, they are just a hassle to deal with.

Not that much of a hassle when you learn how to beat em. Pickpocket fusion cores or... 2 shots. One to pop their helmet off and the other to pop their head off.
