Blood and Language

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 12:31 pm

Blood and cussing has always been prevalent in fallout games. I realize this. But would it be possible for there to be some sort of option for the blood and language. I loved morrowind and fallout 3 and liked oblivion and skyrim. Obviously, I'm very excited about fallout 4. As I watched Mr. Howard presenting fallout 4 at e3, I hoped against hope that there wouldn't be blood or language in the game, but alas, there was plenty of both. I remember creating some mods for fallout 3 and New Vegas that remove explosive gibs and cussing. I worked with some other people to remove gore/killcams from skyrim, Fallout 3, and New Vegas. Would it be really difficult for there to be an on/off toggle for blood and language? In older games like doom, bladur's gate and such there was always a toggle for violence, even if there was really not much of it at all. I could always wait for some modder to put out some edits, but it would mean the world to me and my group of fallout fans if this was a feature. Thanks.
I know I'll probably get mocked out of this forum for this post, but thanks for reading anyways.

"But would it be possible for there to be some sort of option for the blood and language."

Ahaha ha aha...ha. No.

To bring back a phrase that was prevalent in the pre-release Skyrim forums, "You don't need toggles for everything" (or something to that effect, it's been a few years)

Point is, you just can't just ask for something to have a toggle because you don't like it.

It doesn't make any sense for the Fallout series, and not enough people care about it for it to be toggle-worthy. Your best bet is mods mate.

I like the violence and cussing in Fallout games. It adds grit to the world. If anything I'd like to see better gore and death animations as they felt pretty flimsy and cartoony in 3 and NV. I'd always hate when I want to just shoot someone's head off and their arms, legs and torso would also explode.

Why would blood and swearing be upsetting in a post-apocalyptic game?

Ned Flanders mod. All the raiders run around yelling things like "Darn! Diddly darn!" and "Gosh darn it!"

I just wanted to edit this out, mostly so my little brother could sit with me while I play, but also because I simply don't like it. Thanks for not mocking me, like most everyone else here :P.

This game MUST be 18+. There's nothing to talk about.

That's fine by me, but I was just talking about an option. I'm not sure why lots of people are raging at me.

Fallout can't be Fallout without blood. I don't know. It just… can't? I can understand if you don't like it, and I promise I'm not trying to be offensive in the slightest. It is a sweet thing to play games with your little brother. I don't know his age, and you don't have to tell us, but he may be alright watching depending on how old he is, as long as he isn't playing it. The story behind Fallout is violent (War never changes, vault safety is a lie and manipulation, etc), and there is just no creative, logical way of covering it up. That being said, like everyone else pointed out, there may be a mod available for Xbox One or PC. We won't know until later.

Well, there you go.

One has to question if it is the responsibility of the developers to accommodate minors in a game of mature content.

Thanks for responding. Love your profile picture by the way. I completely agree with you about no way to cover it up, but dismemberment and exploding heads might be a bit much for an eight-year-old. :P

Because you're asking for an option to toggle blood and foul language in a violent and foul video game universe. Nothing wrong with more options for the player to play the game the way they desire, but it seems rather silly to ask for such an option for a mature game that excels at a dark tone. I doubt it's something Bethesda would ever consider it, even more so considering Todd Howard loves that kind of stuff in Fallout.

You'll likely have to wait for a mod, or simply play less mature games.

I suggest you play the game when your brother has gone to bed, it would be far too much for an 8 yo. A toggle has been asked for in previous games and not implemented, choose a less violent game to play with your little brother.

I'm genuinely gobsmacked that you would prefer a cleaner version. I'm not against it--I just... I honestly did not see that coming.

I wouldn't expect this as a toggle option, and I do think it would be asking too much. But I'm sure it could be modded. A few bleeps here, a few bleeps there, and voila! Clean version. Of course, the context and tone of the game is still there. Truth is, after all that is done, you still have a game that you probably shouldn't play in front of kids.

Hate blood and violence? Buy the German version of the game! It's perfect for small children with fowl mouths and a thrist to kill! But don't want blood staining their walls.

New Vegas was uncensored ;) I hope Bethesda do the same for FO4 too.
